In 1889, the Cleveland Spiders finished with a record of 20–134 after the owner of the team purchased the St. Louis Browns and siphoned off all the good players to that other franchise. The Spiders set a record for the lowest single-season winning percentage that stands to this day, and the team was disbanded following the season.

The highest scoring game in MLB history was a 26-23 victory by the Cubs over the Phillies in 1922. Despite the high score, the game only lasted about 3 hours, comparable to an average game today.
