I always wonder why people feel compelled to cheat on something like this? If you see your name on the top of the leaderboard and know that you cheated to get there, does that make you feel good about yourself?
I'm hoping it's mainly kids under 10 since at that age they might not understand why cheating is bad, plus I can see a 10 year old thinking it's really cool to show their friends at school that they're top of a leaderboard.
Maybe that's me naively hoping it though, the alternative is that there are adults out there sad enough to think cheating their way to the top of a meaningless leaderboard is worthwhile.
put a timer on each question that way it will be harder for cheaters to cheat, and it will be more fun for us non-cheaters because it's an extra challenge and a fun adrenaline rush.
But how can QM distinguish between two people, two accounts, versus one person with two accounts? Using the IP address alone doesn't prove it's the same person, there could be multiple users on that computer.
Let's imagine it this way: If one account created recently with low levels accesses the DTC from a certain IP address, then a second account created recently with low levels on that same certain IP follows it in quick succession, scoring exponentially high scores, that's a pretty obvious mark of a cheater using an alt
If you're worried about cheaters why not just make it that you have to be at least a certain level to appear on the leaderboard? Would keep out any freshly made accounts. It might not stop all cheaters, but I don't really see the point of daily trivia being timed and having scores without a leaderboard. It's just a general knowledge quiz with a different format now.

People were too determined to cheat.
Also just saw that the leaderboard is gone, booooo
I'm also bummed that the leaderboards are gone, but I understand the headache of dealing with all of the cheaters.
No countries where the spelled-out name is wider than the actual country.
They were a great board. o7
All the same, the daily challenge is a great addition to the site. Hope it sticks around!
Anyone down?
But if not--we can always protest!
