Oh, that 99th percentile is nice to look at. Took my time a bit too much, but I feel like my random/logical guesses and Canadian knowledge was a perfect combo today! :)
One of the easiest quizzes in this series, I thought, but then was surprised that almost half the people didn't know that Apple existed like 20 years before some dotcom companies. Maybe they confused it with the release date of iPhone?
And not even 40% identify biathlon as winter sport? Unexpected...
I think it has to do with the ages of people on here. Anyone younger than me probably wouldn't think about the fact that Apple had huge clunky computers in the 90s. Also I know nothing about "athalons" but I made an educated guess and got it right!
I'm a young person--22. I only got Apple after a lot of deliberation, it was my lowest score out of the ones I got right. In retrospect, I could've gotten it quicker if I had remembered Forrest Gump investing in a "fruit company" :)
In the 80s, Apple computers were really compact for the time. They might have been even smaller than the ones they made in the 90s. :)
Biathlon is pretty big in many northern and central European countries, in the sense that people watch it more than most other winter sports and not only at Olympics.
It was the time rush for me. My brain went to modern tech companies/app-age, and 2000's era tech companies. Didn't give any attention to Apple beyond iPhone
It was going so well and then I torpedoed myself XD
Well, I had no idea about the seatbelt one, to be fair, but then the chef one I just didn't take the time to actually think about it, although I did at least guess the McGill University one correctly to make up for it
I think I subconsciously have Malcolm Gladwell to thank for my intuition on McGill. I could hear that name in his voice when I read the question (too many podcasts) and he's Canadian so....
Of the four I got correct, 50% of those were guesses. "General" knowledge is really not my area, especially not movies and celebrities; and I have zero interest in cars (even if I do get one, my decision-making process will be purely about range and practical considerations, not who happens to make it) or fairy tales (I never read them; my first books were dictionaries and encyclopædiæ, not stories.).
