Falconry might be my stupidest mistake on these daily quizzes yet.

Hanging chads??!! Sounds like some sinister meme from an incel community...

Not sure how non-Americans were meant to guess such a niche question

Yep, I follow, like many other non-Americans, the US politics but not that much to be familiar with this expression...

I’m not American and got that one. It was a big deal because Gore would’ve probably won Florida and the election if the “hanging chads” were counted.

I only got it because of the TV show How I Met Your Mother lol

Or anyone born in 1995 or later

The only reason I got it is because of How I met your mother. There was a Halloween costume in connection with them which prompted me to search for the meaning online.

My dream would be to have the daily trivia but without the US-centric (or English-speaking common culture) questions. But maybe I am biased and there are sometimes questions I find easy that are not part of the referential for USians and/or non-Europeans in general.

i agree. The questions are very US/english centered. It makes it hard for foreigners. But tbf it’s an english website and im pretty sure 70% of people on here are american. I also find that a lot of the questions favor old people.

This is intended for English-speaking audiences only.

But we may restrict it further to only United States. There are so many great questions we are leaving out to make it accessible to non-Americans.

Please don't! Jetpunk has a large user base outside the US and the English-speaking world, and they would be strongly alienated and disadvantaged by that.

Personally, I think Jetpunk should strive to be a global website whose central features, like the Daily Trivia, should be accessible to all. Thank you for keeping it from being just for Americans so far.

I seem to remember a blog about user demographics a little while back that put US and UK users at almost equal. Making a daily quiz just for the US will alienate many users. Unless of course, each country had its own daily quiz.

Thought most of the questions were relatively easy today but I had absolutely no idea about hanging chads. The only time I've ever heard that term was from Ted's costume in How I Met Your Mother, but I don't remember the context (guessing it was a New Year's Eve party now)

Funny, Ted's costume was the reason I got that question. It was his Halloween costume for multiple years in a row because he hoped the Pumpkin would recognize him in it if he sees her again.

8926... can't say I've ever heard the term "hanging chads" which no doubt shows my age

By "shows your age," do you mean "under 35"? Because I'd think that most Americans who were of voting age in 2000 would've be reasonably aware of that news story.

Hippopotamus means "river horse", not "water horse"...
+1
Level 71
May 5, 2025
I think it is both, but in Chinese, the direct translation IS river-horse...

The direct translation of the Dutch word for hippo is Nile-horse.
