Yep, a repeat from a few days ago. Sadly, that was one of the few ones I got right today, my lowest score ever.

Ha, that’s the only one I got wrong. Too bad I didn’t write the quiz before they fixed it,

Looks like the answer has been changed to the correct one but it hasn't affected our scores unfortunately

oh dear, I sure was hoping for a chance to replay it, or at least have a good +990 added for what was meant to be a 9/10

There’s no way nearly 60% of people know where the pope lived at some random time in the 1300s.

The antipopes of Avignon are common knowledge for those who are familiar with European medieval history. Also, there are some French people here ;)

And recovering Catholics who were forced to study church history in parochial school.
+4
Level 71
Aug 8, 2024
It is very common knowledge to whoever studies medieval history or art history. I'm sure most Europeans knew it without even thinking.

True
+5
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
I didn't know it but of the options given it was the only one that made sense to me.
+1
Level 74
Aug 13, 2024
It's not that he just lived somewhere, but it was the official residence of several popes for a while. And it was the only other city besides Rome/Vatican that ever was an official residence of the pope.

Now, I don't remember why the pope moved and if asked, I might have guessed the century wrong, but I would have known Avignon - even, if it hadn't been multiple choice.

First four were insanely hard
+5
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
Question two has only one answer that is less than half of 88, so it was actually quite easy, you didn't have to know the actual number.
+1
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
Actually true, I knew it was less than half and should have just done the math.
+1
Level 53
May 1, 2025
I lost points by counting them on my piano, stupid, obviously it's got to be less than half, facepalm
+4
Level 73
Aug 8, 2024
I think questions 1-4 were pushing it for 'general knowledge'. Obviously, getting a 10/10 should be hard to get, but possible.
+2
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
There being less black keys than white keys on a piano is definitely general knowledge. You don't need to know more than that because only one of the options is less than half of 88.

The Olympic answer similarly might not be a famous event but knowing the other 3 options aren't track and field is general knowledge, so you can do it by process of elimination.

+1
Level 54
Aug 8, 2024
so knowing what "track and field" means and that there are 88 keys on a piano is now considered general knowledge?
+7
Level 69
Aug 8, 2024
Well 88 was given if you read the question, and I would say that knowing what track and field is absolutely qualifies as general knowledge.
+4
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
Track and Field is a very basic term in athletics, I'd wager 90%+ would have got the question right if 100m or long jump was an option. Even with the more obscure steeplechase as the right answer 62% knew it.

If you've never heard of Track and Field that's fine (I've certainly missed some questions 90% of the site knew the answer to before) but you personally not knowing it doesn't change the fact it's well known.

+1
Level 54
Aug 8, 2024
If you pay any attention to the olympics, the steeplechase happened yesterday for the men.

Level 54

wait 88 was given? lmao im stupid
+1
Level 67

Track and field is what Americans call athletics. It is generally understood elsewhere because the meaning is fairly obvious.

9/10, the vowel question got me because I thought of the 'wa' letter in Arabic which can be use both as a long vowel (u sound) or a consonant (w).

My grandmother was from Wales and her immigration paperwork showed the town. It had all consonants, which now makes sense.

did not do well today…

got first two but very slowly, so i rushed on 3 and 4 and got them wrong, 3 i am especially disappointed in missing, and i missed 9. would’ve been a slow 10/10 had i not rushed. so a 7/10 today.

3,957, worst score ever. I'm kinda suspicious of the high averages, but they're probably just categories I'm not familiar with. Or Euro-centric

We don't get the "this is your X worst-ranking score" message? :/

+1
Level 83
Aug 8, 2024
Probably for the best we dont get that message

Also i agree with you even though i got 8/10 most of them were just process of elimination or educated guesses. Then again most of the time if i was to only get points on the ones im sure about then i would get 3-5 instead of my usual 6-8

+6

Are there any hardcore horse girls here?

I thought someone told me once that dressage was technically not dancing

AI is telling me horse dancing may be "equestrian vaulting" (humans dancing or doing gymnastics, while riding horses). But also "equestrian ballet" (which is a common name for dressage)

FWIW I don't think "dancing" comes up in dressage sites like:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dressage

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equestrian_events_at_the_Summer_Olympics

https://www.usef.org/compete/disciplines/dressage

https://www.usdf.org/about/about-dressage/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdQirzu3Wa4

After watching a video of someone unmistakably describing horse dancing for 3 minutes, but taking care to never once use the word "dance", my curiosity is piqued

"Musical freestyle performance" seems like an awfully composed way of going around your elbow to get to your reins

+3
Level 66
Aug 8, 2024
That's a fair mistake to make, the Track version of the sport is actually based on the horse version. I think someone just watched the horse steeplechase and thought "we should make humans do that".

Technically the arabic leter و ‎(waw) is used both as a consonant /w/ and a vowel /u/. Of course Welsh is a much more intuitive answer since it uses the Latin alphabet.

In addition to the previous comment about Arabic waw being a vowel, Wikipedia notes that Romanian ⟨w⟩ may be pronounced as /u/ in some contexts.
