Is it no longer considered vestigial?

Level 65

I agree the question is worded very weirdly, it is vestigial since it no longer has a use

it's still debated whether it is vestigial. It is thought to hold gut bacteria that actually do have a use

Oh wow, that was super hard. Prague Spring versus Velvet Revolution… hard to remember in seconds even for history buffs!

Aye, that one threw me as I thought the Velvet Revolution was in the 50s/60s where the USSR had to send in troops. I did read that book 15 years ago and haven't used the knowledge since!!

Tricky today, especially as I know nothing about NBA stats.

Only got the Family Tree one wrong.

Surprised that so many people picked genghis khan when the question even says 2500 years. That should have been a major clue

Is this type of response what people do on normal social media? Just a one-word dismissal for no good reason? Seems ignorant.

I mean, I got the question right and ruled out Genghis Khan for the reason MasterRocket stated, but the nerd response made me laugh. It all depends on how you interpret it, and I somehow don't think the type of people who are signing up to jetpunk are going to be earnestly ignorant or dismissive of knowing things. It's clearly a joke.

Fair point. I guess I see keen students picked on a lot, so I’m always primed to defend nerdery.

I consider it a badge of honor

A family tree can go forward in time or backwards in time - your descendants and your ancestors - so the number of years was not helpful.

Level 89
Aug 13, 2024
I ruled out Genghis because of that, because there's no way we could have information on an extra 1700 years of his ancestry, but I foolishly went with Augustus instead because I figured his family tree might be a bit more fleshed out

4896, my third worst score ever. I think my brain shutdown after getting 2 of the first 3 wrong.

I feel your pain, once I get 2 wrong my brain writes off the rest of the quiz as pointless. Dumb mistakes ensue.

9/10. After yesterday's pitiful 6/10 I was one away from a perfect day before I was Czech'd on the last question.

when did appendix start to have a purpose?
+7
Level 46
Aug 13, 2024
Immunologist here! The appendix is considered an important organ that harbours many beneficial bacteria for the gut, contributing to a healthy microbiome! It seems to be more important early on in childhood when this is all developing :)

So QM, is it good to have a bunch of pending submitted questions so you can mull through them? Or is it better for you if we wait for you to process the ones we’ve submitted before submitting more?

Well if I'd THOUGHT about it, I would've realized that Genghis Khan wasn't alive in the 6th century BC but I get extra points for being fast!!

The Confucius one tripped up a lot of people because aside from not paying enough attention to the years, it's easy to think of Genghis Khan because of how many people from Asia are descended from him.
