I didn't even know there was breakdancing at the Olympics. I guess they're trying to attract a younger audience? I thought breakdancing was for 30-50 year olds & had died down
I thought the mockery started with the opening ceremony in 2024. It looks like there's been things like Mountain Biking, Trampoline, BMX Racing, Rugby, Golf, Skateboarding, Climbing, Surfing, and Breakdancing, over the last few decades. I can imagine some of these in Red Bull style events. But I guess merit and organized sporting committees are rarely found together.
rabble - I don’t see how any of the sports you listed are any less real or merit-based than say gymnastics or figure skating, which have been inarguable Olympics staples for decades.
I'm referring to the selection process & history of IOC corruption + scandals
I have a hard time imaging some of these sports in a Olympic setting. And I watch some of them from time to time, like mountain biking, golf, climbing, surfing... I mean there's entertainment, and then there's a global convention to suss out peak human performance.
It's actually the first time it's been at the Olympics. New sports are introduced sometimes, and depending on how it goes, they can become Olympic sports permanently.
Wow, that 10/10 feels a little lucky. I guessed importer/exporter because I felt Seinfeld would reference James Bond in how Art Vandelay was sometimes an importer/exporter. Then I took forever on the colours because I couldn’t remember K and couldn’t think of a colour that fit K! Went with my vague memories of the 90s though.
9/10, I could have swear that James Bond was impersonating a reporter, but I guessed I was thinking of OSS 117 / Noël Flantier in OSS 117: Lost in Rio :(
Yeah it almost threw me reading the question because I knew the answer but the word wasn't the one I was expecting haha; "breaking" conjures images of competitive destruction of property - an Olympic sport I think I'd be pretty good at XD
Sometimes I just have to take my lumps on topics I haven't absorbed by osmosis and don't care to pursue. It's usually some element of pop culture - James Bond in this case. 9/10
In Classical Rome, they would have said "Iovis" instead of "Jove". This is just the genitive form of "Iuppiter" ("Jupiter"), and didn't really become an alternate name for the deity until the late antiquity/early Medieval period.
I answered the James Bond question correctly but he definitely claimed to be a bird photographer in Die Another Day. So I'd argue that question had 2 valid answers.
Thank you!

(He does use “ornithologist” as a cover briefly in Die Another Day though. And he says he’s a reporter in A View to a Kill at least.)
Did they really call it "breaking" as opposed to "breakdancing" btw? I didn't watch it, just heard the news stories about it 😂
But it's pretty standard linguistic evolution, really.
