If you turn off I-70 while heading east toward Reno and head north on California 89 you'll see a sign for the Donner Party Picnic Area. There are some sick people in the California Parks Department.
Definitely had an advantage being a Brit for Q2. London falls into both hemispheres (Greenwich being the famous point it switches at, hence the timezone GMT standing for Greenwich Mean Time), so that ruled Asia and North America out straight away.
The irony is that "hemi-" means half, so the question is about four half-globes which is technically not correct. It should be four quarters, really. And would Oceania not qualify as well, to be in all four of those quarters? I know it wasn't one of the options, but still...
The question has to be about hemispheres/half globes because Africa doesn't have land in all 4 quarters. It has no land in the south-western quadrant. This is a perfect example of why the argument against 4 hemispheres is not well conceived. (Really, the argument should be made for 6 hemispheres, but that's not relevant here.)
Oceania would definitely qualify if it was an option because Kiribati has territory in all four hemispheres, pretty sure it's the only country that can make that claim
It caught me out but I don't mind niche questions popping up once in a while. Tbf the lack of a Japanese option kinda gave me a hunch that it would be one of the Western options, but I had no way of narrowing it down so I went for Hong Kong anyway 😅
I remember hearing something about it, and also remembered that it was not where I had expected it to be, so I just guessed the least-likely seeming option. Los Angeles.
Hello Kitty > probably Japanese > so likely not Hong Kong/China > Paris/London. But I chose Paris because I thought the Japanese were pretty obsessive about Paris
Only got 7/10. Don't know where Hello Kitty lives, geography bested me again. I figured Asia creeped over into the Western hemisphere, but I guess not. And said Dahmer party, because I'm an idiot and didn't read all the choices first.
I got the four hemisphere question, but otherwise had your same experience. Know nothing about Hello Kitty, and went too fast on the Donner Party question and picked Dahmer.
The gunpowder question should be tossed or re-worded. Both sulphur (brimstone) and saltpeter (potassium nitrate) are elements of (black) gunpowder. What is the "key" element of water-hydrogen or oxygen?
Didn't know about the Donner Party and Hello Kitty's residence, so I just guessed (wrongly obviously)
What fooled me was the continent question, because there are European countries' land (territories) in all four hemispheres. France alone has land in South and North America, Eastern Africa and Oceania. But I suppose I can only blame myself, the question was not if there was EU external territories, but if the continent itself was on these hemispheres... I should have known better
Doesn't gunpowder contain both brimstone (sulfur) AND saltpeter? Granted, the saltpeter portion was traditionally more difficult to source, and was the "controlling ingredient" to making gunpowder.
Also would rather not disclose how long I spent thinking about question 2 😅 A few tricky ones here tbf
All thanks to my intense
luckskill and unmatched knowledge of Hello Kitty!Except I also missed the tank question.
One of my worst performances to date. I totally need to slow down. The Dahmer Party. 😂
