I'm English and have only been to Wales once, I educated guessed the last one but everything else was something I knew, 10/10, second best score of all time, my Dad also got 10/10 and his best score of all time (more points than me too!).
I got 10/10 as a French, but I have to admit last one was pure luck! Well I proceeded by elimination, removing 2 answers because of where they are from, but I had no clue on the origins of the other two, including the correct answer. And now that I’ve checked their origin, it still doesn’t make sense hahaha!
I actually really liked this quiz being themed around Wales. I only got 6/10, but I guess I got some freebies seeing as how the animal on the flag and Gareth Bale come up a lot when I play FIFA :P
Omg I did it, my best score of all time, 9,939!🎉🎉🎉 In fairness Wales is only about an hour from me on the train, so this theme fell very nicely for me, no guesses required 😂
9700 for me, but by my standards I consider that fast haha
(took a lot of time thinking about Harry vs William, I seem to have only one memory slot for both of them, so all details about them get added to both of them instead of one of them)
I gathered myself after the first question and mentally reviewed everything I knew about whales and wailing. I had spermaceti and banshees locked and loaded. Then it was just Wales questions and missed two. Really kicking myself for the two I missed too, because I had it 50/50 for both and picked the more unlikely one for both because these quizzes are often tricky.
Full marks and my best score too: 9911! When I realised the topic, being from Liverpool, I thought this was going to be a good opportunity for full marks in a quick time.
8/10. Who knew Jones was that popular in Wales? And I should have paid more attention to the year in the music question. I just went for the easy Enya.
Tbf it definitely does sound like something Enya would write a song about, only knew that one because I have several massive Fleetwood Mac fans in my family
Going too fast, and missed the hint on the most common surname. Furious with myself. Would've been #1 on my leaderboard for probably the first time ever.
8/10 for me. Knew nothing of Welsh industry, and it's the most I can do to remember the names of the kings, not what they did. Though I suppose conquering Wales is a pretty big deal.
Not trying to pass the buck or anything because I did get the question wrong, but I think that when you do a question where the choice are monarchs, they should either all be their wordy name (Richard the Lionheart, Edward Longshanks, Henry of Monmouth) or they should be their name plus their regnal number (Richard I, Edward I, Henry V) It's confusing when you use both
The History of English podcast has some great information about the name Wales. It derived from what the Anglo-Saxons called foreigners, e.g. Celts who didn't speak their language. It's how you get names like Wallace up in Celtic Scotland. And the Welsh marshes, or borders, gave us even more words: marsh, march, mark, marquee, marshmallow, etc. Fun stuff.
9/10 I clicked too fast on "unicorn" and should have known better. Decades ago I was a tourist in the UK, took a train to spend an afternoon in Cardiff.
If you come not from Wales, it is hard to answer all questions.
Hope one day I can get there! Cheers!
I lost quite a bit of time reading the answers to the longest village name, but yea this quiz fell pretty kindly for me, had 2 or 3 995 answers
And thank you, not too shabby yourself! 😁
(took a lot of time thinking about Harry vs William, I seem to have only one memory slot for both of them, so all details about them get added to both of them instead of one of them)
The singer of that song is the biggest giveaway for the answer.
Wales, Wales, Wales 🏴
Not too shabby I suppose for a 'country' I know little about.

Being British really helped :)
Guess I’m not very knowledgeable about Wales. And I most definitely know nothing about soccer.
Albeit it was my second best score somehow.
