Sandflies threw me off, and apparently most others. Only 9% so far guessed snakes.

I said hippos.

I really thought it was dogs. I didn't realize dogs were only half as many as snakes! That one was a great question!

Level 83
Mar 13, 2025
Oof. Missed three in a row. Why’d it have to be snakes?

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
+5
Level 40
Mar 13, 2025
Snakes are only behind mosquitos and humans themselves
+1
Level 20
Mar 13, 2025
Snakes seems like the logical answer, but I over thought it

Is that why Gary, Indiana was featured in the Music Man? I don't remember the movie at all, or can recall ever hearing Gary described as that.

It’s where Professor Hill said he hailed from and he was originally a swindler, so maybe…
+1
Level 91
Mar 14, 2025
Harold Hill claimed he had graduated from the Gary Conservatory of Music in 1905, but that statement revealed his duplicity, as the city was only founded in 1906. I don't recall anything negative being said about the city itself, though.

7/10…kicked myself about the snakes and Antarctica, but I didn’t have a hope of knowing Pele’s real name.
+4
Level 64

Level 69

I guessed Vlad for the Pelé question...
+4
Level 34
Mar 13, 2025
I don't think Vlad is a very common brazilian name hahah
+1
Level 70
Mar 13, 2025
That's why I almost answered it. Because it's the one you think couldn't be right. Ended up guessing right in the end, though.

Actually is not that unusual, you can find some lol

8/10, went for Fort Wayne instead of Gary, and like a lot of people I fell for the sandflies trap because insects usually kill more people (if you count the kill for the insect rather than the microbe, at least) - although in this case it seems snakes are still ahead by about 30,000

In other news, I've already dropped as many points this month as I did in all of January 😅 Definitely feels like we've gotten some harder questions of late, I need to shape up haha

+3
Level 47
Mar 13, 2025
I picked Gary because I've heard the city name a lot and it seems miserable. Also I picked dogs because I hear a lot about dog attacks happening.
+2
Level 74

For what it’s worth, Gary IN was Michael Jackson’s hometown.
+3
Level 89
Mar 14, 2025
That's literally the only thing I knew about Gary before this quiz haha
+2
Level 55
Mar 13, 2025
I've watched quite a few YouTube videos about how depressing Gary, IN is.
+2
Level 72
Mar 13, 2025
Have an 8/10 today too.

Somehow snake feel like the obvious answer but the trickiness when the quiz are about to end had fooled a lot of people (me included)

Gary is a very sad story. In its heyday it was one of the best places to live in the country...my great grandfather moved there from Russia and my family afterwards spent three generations trying to leave. Despite this, it's still one of the biggest steel producers in the country and you can find Hoosiers all over who worked in the steel mills.
+1
Level 27
Mar 19, 2025
fun fact, that question i submitted was part of a cluster of 10 steel-related questions i submitted at once in case QM wanted to do another themed DTC

A very slow 10/10 beat 99% of takers. For the Pelé question I eliminated the first answer because Lima is in Peru, the second answer because it was mostly Russian, the fourth answer because it was too obvious, thereby getting the right answer for 900 points.
+5
Level 89

You might be interested to know that "Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima" is actually the name of a different Brazilian footballer haha, but I can see your logic there!
+1
Level 83
Mar 13, 2025
I followed a similar line of logic. It actually worked, to my amazement.

8/10. Missed the first answer. I said New Zealand. And I remember reading that hippos killed a lot of people, so I said that. Would have answered mosquitos if that had been a choice.
+3
Level 62
Mar 13, 2025
I also said New Zealand and I was also looking for mosquitos!

Level 91

Same, but I missed the Pele question too. Based on the scores on my leaderboard this was a tough one for a lot of folks.
+2
Level 89
Mar 14, 2025
Even now, nobody on my friends list has gotten 10/10 on this one. Really low average too (5.57 at the time of writing), definitely one of the hardest of the year so far.

As a New Zealander, I know that Chile is closer. Most of the cruises to Antarctica leave from Chile or Argentina.

Fun fact about Pete Best, he released an album called "Best of the Beatles" which as its cover had an early picture of The Beatles with Pete Best faintly circled. The album itself contained zero Beatles songs (leaving the thousands that bought it disappointed) and it was instead just songs from Best's new band.

A lawsuit tried to sue Pete for deliberately misleading the public however he successfully argued that since he was "Best, of the Beatles" there was no misinformation and the lawsuit was dropped.
