Agree with you on this! When I ask people a question in real life and they tell me to google it, I lament the fact that we all used to actually talk to each other :(
For those of us old enough to remember, that story was everywhere. Maybe you remember the movie I, Tonya, starring Margot Robbie? In short: Tonya Harding was Nancy Kerrigan's rival in figure skating. Kerrigan was very pretty and grew up in a wealthy family. Harding was considered unattractive and came from relative poverty. Although Harding (and many others) believed Harding was actually the better skater, Harding was promoted much less by US Figure Skating because she was not as refined as Kerrigan. A few weeks before the Olympics, Harding's ex-husband had his friend smash Kerrigan in the knee with a police baton when she was walking off the ice. The video of Kerrigan sitting on the ground in her skating outfit after she was hit, crying and yelling "Whyyyy?!?!" was on TV around the clock. As the question says, Kerrigan recovered in time to win silver at the Olympics. Harding did not do well. Later, the plot was exposed and Harding was banned from pro skating.
The podcast You’re Wrong About has an excellent episode on Tonya Harding. There’s a very strong case to be made that her abusive partner and his friend did it without her knowledge.
Nancy Kerrigan was attacked on January 6, 1994, by Shane Stant, who struck her with a baton on her right thigh. The attack was orchestrated by Jeff Gillooly, Tonya Harding's ex-husband, and his associate Shawn Eckardt, with the goal of preventing Kerrigan from competing in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the Winter Olympics. Kerrigan was able to recover and compete in the Olympics, winning a silver medal. Harding was later implicated in the attack and ultimately accepted a plea agreement for hindering the prosecution.
Oof, difficult back half. Was on a scorcher for time, but missed #9 and had to logic out #7 so I lost lots of points. There aren’t many racing questions I’ll get right!
I'm a British and I've just realised why it's silver not gold.. sterling!! Idiot, how embarrassing 🤦
Apart from that, I missed out on 6 & 8. I should really have got 8, as I could cross out Carl and Nadia, but thought Paula sounded familiar, now I recall she's the British long distance runner who bobbed her head when running. Hey ho.

I totally forgot the phrase "silver screen." I got it by remembering my cinematography classes and how silver reflected well and sharpened the images. Your way seems easier lol.
9/10 missed #1 because that seems like a whole lot of money. But I used my lack of sports knowledge to get the Silverstone question--I've never heard of it, so I figured it must be a sport!
Yeah, back to the Kerrigan-Harding saga. My curling team has a standing joke about a certain way of improving our mediocre standing in the league. Of course, it's just a joke; we never hire thugs to whack our opponents in the knee. They'd probably still win, anyway!
With regard to the remark about people saying 'Google it'. I like to wind my grandkids up by saying 'I will just Google it" and then picking up the dictionary

Tell me you weren't alive in the early 90s without telling me!
"Which creature is supposed to be vulnerable to a silver bullet ?
- Vampire
- Werewolf
- Mummy
- Zombie"
The silver lining being, that its still a new HS.
