Question for QM: I timeout fairly often (very poor rural internet) when submitting comments, finishing quizzes. I get the timeout error, hit 'OK', submit again and after several attempts it gets thru. Last night I had the problem on the DTC & this morning I see that I have two (identical) attempts at the DTC. Is that just sort of a latent server retry connection?
I don’t mean for them to be doomful. Telomeres have been in the news a lot because of gene editing. I will take the advantage of knowing the answers in advance to doomy questions, though.
I see, somehow missed that. Just joking anyway, you write great questions. I just notice that I've failed on them quite a lot . But when I do I invariably learn something interesting :)
9/10...Change of pattern, stayed up late (9:00 PST) so I can get ahead of all my friends as opposed to the morning like 6:00 AM PST. Jeg333 and I are 1-2 on our LB....when I get up in the morning it will be way different. This was a pretty easy quiz....for us old folks!
8/10 for me today, was going really well but then I bungled the last two. Probably should've figured the gap in life expectancy had something to do with the war, but I went for South Africa instead; and on Q10 I was only able to rule out Moonstruck so I went for Witches of Eastwick, not my lucky day haha
'Death Becomes Her' has got to be the poorest choices for Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn. Travesty of their talents. Sad to watch, I didn't finish the movie.
Yes, I think it might have been one of those 'make some money' decisions or they hadn't been in the forefront during the early 90s. I think it is very hard for very strong celebrities of any ilk (actors, athletes, etc.) subject to such scrutiny (and temptation) to make it through life. Marilyn Monroe didn't, Katherine Hepburn did....better to be a farmer or a sailor (I'm kinda both :=)
I'm gonna start calling it the Dimby question of Doom :P
i also got a 5/10 overall tho
todays theme = spikes
note: this one was pretty hard to find the theme. im unsure if there is one at all
1. sewing is old, all the way from the paleolithic era. sewing needles are spiky
2. buttons are sewn on (see q1)
3. jagged things are spiky. (d and r are very similar in baybayin so jagger is similar to jagged)
4. these are like aglets, on shoelaces. shoelaces often pick up spiky burs
5. wilde was imprisoned. prison guards have weapons. weapons are often spiky (ex: sword)
6. pine cones are spiky
7. wrinkles are not smooth skin, similar to how spiky is the opposite of smooth
8. conquistador weapons had spears, which are big spikes
9. this is due in part from war. war uses weapons. (see q5)
10. death may result from spiky things
