No pride in a 10/10...sculptors have been a fascination of mine since a teenager. Saw the David on a summer in Europe, Rodin a favorite ((although he was sort of creepy as a person)., been to Notre Dame,... So to other observations, an easy DTC when you know the answers!
7/10. Picked the wrong Roosevelt. Was a 50/50 on David and chose 2m instead of 5m. Knew it wasn't Manhattan or Nantucket but Liberty seemed too obvious so went for Staten.
Yeah, Mt. Rushmore was started quite before Franklin...if you are 17 years old and peer around a black curtain, while waiting in a line... in Florence and see this....wonderfully lovely boy/man you would know how tall he is!!
Did well! 9/10 The Brussels one I got it from the multiple choice city quiz and recently I picked up a very good book about art that talked about David with more than I already knew, Rodin saw it in Museo Soumaya, and the others were just to easy like Liberty and Rushmore, or bust and discus
I don't remember what Rodins are at the Museo Soumaya. Are they in the top floor with all the small sculptures? // As a New Yorker, I wish one of the answers for the Statue of Liberty had been Ellis Island--that would have tricked a lot more people. With the current options it's pretty obvious.
Thanks. I remember seeing it at the Rodin House in Paris around twenty years ago, but not in Mexico City five or six years ago! That's what happens when you pass 40...
1. easter island has many of these (see contection in q2)
2. to get to islands, wayfaring and sailing and rowing was needed. rowing is a form of exercise and, along with sailing, a sport
3. Teddy was a rough rider, which were cavalry, which involves eqestrianism
4. discus
5. david used slings to fire things, thats a sport
6. rodin sounds like robins. robins are birds. birds, esp. pigeons, were used by military (see documentary "battlefield one" (one plays as a pigeon)). military used horses. (see q3)
7. Capital of the host country of 1920 olympics
8. construction work pre mechanization of a large building was certainly strenuous activity
9. dogs are used in some sports, such as, uh, can't think of one right now
10. the statue of liberty has a bunch of steps, and its exercise to climb that many.
Please note that the experimental treatment for Neo's Theme Blindness was considered unsuccessful. We chose not to pursue further treatment due to comedic effect.
i stopped bc i didn't think anyone read them, but then after 2 people commented abt it and 5 ppl got rickrolled, i had a revelation that this is a thankless service i must continue
8/10. I've even seen David in person, but I thought 15 feet seemed too big. And I thought paper airplanes would make better sculptures than balloon dogs, I guess.
I've always been impressed by the official size - 17 feet (5.17 m). It must be really impressive. And, as an engineer, I wonder about finding and cutting a chunk of marble that big out of the earth without damaging it!
9/10 because I love sculpture but don't know anything about Belgium (and it took me a long time to convert David's feet into "meters" lol). If you love sculpture too then watch Waldemar Januszczak's BBC series--he's the best art presenter out there and this may be my favorite series of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsdXKATIm4I
His home and gardens in Paris are quite amazing! I know its hard to compete with the Louvre, Muse d'Orsay, etc but Rodin's house is well worth it if you are in Paris.
Plus, some of the most famous moai are buried up to their shoulders, contributing to the popular conception that they are just heads.
All of these animal emojis are more than a head... Much more than I expected...
todays theme = exercise, sport and activity!
notes: series returned starting yesterday
