Managed the 10/10, 9,899; lost most of that time on the last question, which had me stumped for a while after flying through the rest. Very nearly went for speechwriting but figured the "-ology" suffix wouldn't apply to something like that.
I need to start exploring the other romance languages more, because my Portuguese didn't help on this one, although I can see the similarities in the words (clock/watch = relógio)
Same tbf haha, knew it wasn't insects (entomology) and was pretty sure horoscopes was a trap, so then I just had to rule out speechwriting, which took me a minute but I was moderately confident in the end
I got 8889, and I was fast like lightening :D (ok for the music question I did check all the answers, it was not an instant one)
Missed the moon, ofcourse as usual changed at the last second, but well if it had been right I might have said, hey I knew it was that one, my instinct was right to switch..
Still hoping for a fast 10/10 I only did like 250 so there is hope
Got them all, and pretty quickly, too. 9841! Only needed an educated guess on Saturn and the Congo. Also lost a bunch of time on the asteroid question because I had to reread the question because I suspected trickery in the details.
Saturn was my only real 50/50 (would not have been able to tell 5 and 7 without options probably, but had not much doubt in what I clicked, with saturn I went back and forth.. looks like I wasn't the only one 54% went for Jupiter too, only 35% for Saturn)
This is where non-natives usually hit a wall, as it takes us just a fraction longer to grasp what is asked and to sort through the answers. 9876 is probably as good as it gets for me.
Theoretically 9930 for me, I get 993 quite regularly, realistically more like 9900 though and even then things have to line up perfectly (and not have a sluggish day). Currently 9871 is my top score.. hopefully I improve it soon :)
The idea that asteroid impact caused the extinction of the dinosaurs is obsolete. Most paleontologists know thinks that it was actually multi factorial and the asteroid had a very small impact on the process. The volcanism episode who caused the Deccan Trapps, for example, was probably a way more decisive factor
"It is now generally thought that the K–Pg extinction resulted from the impact of a massive asteroid 10 to 15 km wide. [...] Other proposed causal or contributing factors to the extinction have included the Deccan Traps and other volcanic eruptions, climate change, and sea level change. However, in January 2020, scientists reported that climate-modeling of the mass extinction event favored the asteroid impact and not volcanism." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cretaceous%E2%80%93Paleogene_extinction_event
It was a classic comic. I even saw it at a Far Side exhibition at the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History back in the day, so that proves it's science!
Annoying, 8/10 but chose wrong between 2 on both questions I got wrong. Close but not close enough. Took worryingly long on the Titan question which I will definitely not tell my thesis supervisor.
Wow that is oddly useful haha.what are the odds. :)
Did they also happen to have a poster of Saturn and its moons on the wall?
For all the quizzes from now on, you should look around the room haha, might not help with speed, but who knows it might get you more correct answers :)

Didn't know the moon question. Astronomy is a weak subject for me.

I was reading James and the Giant Peach.
