9/10 today. I chose Finland for the language, because I had no clue and went for what seemed most outlandish. Maybe I could've had a ten if I'd thought for longer?

I never knew that I knew all this Turkey-adjacent trivia. Nice touch for Thanksgiving

The Turks as an ethnic group come out of Central Asia--Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, western China, and Mongolia. They were brought to the Middle East as soldiers and slaves and then became numerous and powerful enough to start making their own states. So to me, Mongolia being an early place of Turkish settlement does not surprise me.

Weren't the Slavic peoples, originating in the east coastal areas of the Baltic Sea the ethnic group that spread south and east? Like all of Eastern Europe and Russia, Mongolia? I need to study more....

Same here, and I hesitated, and decided Mongolia would be too obvious :(

Weird to have a Turkey theme more than a month after Thanksgiving, which, you know, was formally a holiday in Canada before it was formally a holiday in the US.

Even weirder for those of us from countries that don't celebrate Thanksgiving.

Yeahhh, my first 10/10 and it’s on a Turkey quiz. I guess you get to know a lot about a country when it’s occupying half of yours (🇨🇾).

The theme today is: the common subject which all questions pertain to. Although most of the questions were about Turkey, the country not in America, it seems the quizmaster who wrote this quiz was making a reference to Turkey - the bird, which is not actually a chicken - as it is currently Thanksgivening day.

Nice theme flip to not make it about USA on a USA holiday. Now off to brine the turkey, make a pumpkin pie and get ready for some football. Nothing else to do today🦃

5/10 which may be my worst score ever. I know all about the pilgrims but basically nothing, I guess, about Turkey. Guess I better go eat one. Happy turkey day!

OMG the Downton Abbey reference in #7. Well played!
+3
Level 40
Nov 27, 2025
It's not a reference lol. Orhan Pamuk is a Nobel winning Turkish author. The Downtown Abbey character was named Kemal Pamuk - possibly referencing either "Kemal" Atatürk or a writer w/ the name Kemal like Yaşar "Kemal" and ofc, Orhan "Pamuk". So it's rather the opposite :)))

Really funny how I only see the wild turkeys near my house as this day approaches and never again throughout the rest of the year. The rest of the time we see "Texas turkey" (sandhill cranes).
