Also 10, it's been a long time. Half guessed Mumbai; deduced grassland because I thought veldt sounds like green (rightly or wrongly). The rest I knew.

For a fun fact, the original spelling of "veldt" is just "veld"

Its an afrikaans (South African) word for field. Other countries add a T so that the proununciation is easier.

Like "Wildebeest". The original pronunciation sound like "Vilderbeeust"

As a Dutchman I already put question marks for the spelling of this question, thanks.

My guess is that when the word came into common use in English from South Africa, the British were much more familiar with German, where several words end in -dt, and assumed it ought to be spelt like that. Just a guess though, what do I know

Also, now I say that, the only one I can think of is Stadt. Perhaps I really am talking rubbish 🤔

Ahh, now I definitely should have known that; v in German is pronounced like an F and Feld is also the word for field.

The grog one threw me, although I did remember the original meaning. Round these parts, grog means alcohol of any kind.

I think in the Spanish/British colonization of the 'New World' sailors were provided a daily ration of rum which was streched with water & called grog. They also added lemon or lime juice to improve the flavor. Hence, the grog cocktail. Unknowningly, the citrus helped address scurvy. Kinda like a daiquiri

8/10 In 2026 I don't know why anyone still knows anything about the zodiac; it's pretend. But it's my fault for momentarily mixing up vitamins D and C. :(

Everything I know about the zodiac I learned against my will, my mum is super into astrology and it's a frequent source of annoyance for me 😂

Try to tell that to the Chinese who are wedded to the Chinese Zodiac.....school grades have to prepare for the year of the dragon or tiger because the class size whacks out cuz families work at birthing in those years, preferable sons.
