People have theorised before that Harrison didn't understand what marginal tax meant and thought all of his income was being taxed at 95% (rather than just the bit above the threshold).

Given that The Beatles' manager (Epstein) was awful at making deals (until 1968 they only received 1 penny for each record sold) it's also possible Epstein used the taxman as a convenient scapegoat to hide the real reason for why the band's take home pay was so much lower than the record sales figures being reported.
