9/10 as I should. Only 9 because #4 was tricky. I know the Polish name, but God help me if I was to guess the English one again

You go with the Catholic answer......all the odd foods (allowed or not) are usually around Lent/Easter...Valentine's Day is a made-up day by Hallmark cards...

I got totally thrown because Lent starts on Wednesday, so how can you have a Fat Thursday, not Tuesday? Live and learn.

We give ourselves the heads up a week in advance. In Poland the days after Fat Thursday are known as 'ostatki' (an old word for 'remnants' I think)

Wow, totally random guess on the Solidarity. Maybe I came across his name when teaching History, but searching my brain gave me absolutely nothing other than what felt like a random guess. 😂

Maybe having German teachers at school who aren't German really paid off... my current one's Polish, and the surname ended with 'ski'. :D

I don't consider myself an expert on Poland, but the given answers were easy enough to reach 10/10.

(Although on Q4, I hesitated a bit and lost a lot of time.)

Apparently they do their fat Tuesday (mardi gras) early.
+3
Level 79
May 21, 2026
kind of yeah :D traditionally almost the whole week before Ash Wednesday is the time where people can party and eat all they want. we call it "ostatki" in Polish (loosely translated to "last days", as "ostatni" means last; i believe it's called Shrovetide in English), so on the weekend following Fat Thursday many people would organise parties etc. then Tuesday is a day when you would start saying hello to lent, in my region it's called "podkoziołek"

4/10 which is probably my worst score ever. I say it's time for Waldemar Januszczak to get his Adventures in Poland series up on YouTube so we can finally watch it in America! If you're here, Waldy, do it!

8/10 I missed the last two, but I usually perform poorly on these country themed dailies so I'll take my lucky guesses on this one and be happy.
