As of 2023, El Salvador's murder rate has fallen by over 95% and is now below that of the United States. Despite criticism of his methods, Bukele's approval rate stands at 87%.

Very late response, but it's not all that hard to spot gang members there. Many of them have identifying tattoos that show their allegiance, and not just one or two tats, rather they cover their entire faces and bodies in them.

Also I don't think Bukele rounded up ALL the gangsters. If anything he rounded up the usual suspects, while the ones who weren't as easy to spot probably decided to tone down their activities once they saw the consequences they could face.
