Since the year 2000, 43 different men have won a gold medal in water polo. They were all born within a 350 kilometer radius circle centered on the city of Našice, Croatia.

In the 1954 novel "Lord of the Flies", author William Golding wrote about schoolboys who were stranded on an island and quickly reverted to savagery. Was Golding's book an insightful take on human nature? Probably not. In 1965, six boys from a boarding school in Tonga were stranded on an island. Far from reverting to savagery, the boys co-operated to share work, keep a fire going, and survive for 15 months.

By the year 2100, the most ethnically German country in the world might be... Bolivia. In 2024, 2% of all births in Bolivia were to German Mennonites, up from 0.2% in 1980. If these trends continue, this religious community would account for half of births in Bolivia by 2100.
In 2010, a British trader named Navinder Singh Sarao helped trigger the infamous "Flash Crash" — a trillion-dollar stock market plunge — while sitting in his bedroom wearing pajamas. He used a homemade algorithm to manipulate prices, causing chaos across global markets.
If I remember correctly, Golding wrote Lord of the Flies as a counter-argument for the prevalent literature of "Kids get stranded in an island, then bring civilization to the islanders through their superior Western values and Christianity".
Golding lived through WWII, saw that literature as 'utter garbage', and wrote Lord of the Flies.
Fun facts from Formula 1 (don't remember if we have some of these here, and there's no dedicated page for them):
1. Between 2009 and 2010, there was a streak of 29 races in which whoever arrived as points leader was unable to win the race.
2. During the 1977 German Grand Prix, local driver Hans Heyer managed an impressive, one-of-a-kind treble: he did not qualify, did not finish, and was disqualified. He managed to do it after he slipped into the race, and only was found when his car failed.
3. During the 2007 European Grand Prix, Marcus Winkelhock made his F1 debut, in which he: started dead last, took first after gambling on a heavy downpour, started first after the race was stopped, and then didn't finish due to car failure. It was also his last F1 race.
4. Despite being envisioned as the junior/B team for Red Bull, Toro Rosso took the first F1 win for the Red Bull family.
5. During F1 early years, some race organizers were unprepared for surprise winners, and had no recording for their national anthems. In the 1967 South African GP, they played the "Hat Dance" for Mexican Pedro Rodríguez (afterwards, he always travelled with a recording of the Mexican anthem, just in case). And in the 1977 Austrian GP, a single trumpeter played "Happy Birthday" after Australian Alan Jones took the victory (it wasn't his birthday).
6. George Harrison was a passionate F1 fan. When he took a sabbatical in 1977, he went following the F1 circus. He later admitted he started writing what would become his eponymous album to "satisfy requests from his friends in the F1 community", like Niki Lauda and Emerson Fittipaldi. His song "Faster" was inspired by that friendship with F1 drivers, and served to raise funds for a cancer research fund set up by Swedish driver Gunnar Nilsson. He would also fund the early career of Damon Hill (1996 Champion).
7. Sebastian Vettel debuted in F1 as a test driver during the 2006 Turkish GP. Nine seconds into his debut, he collected a fine for exceeding the pitlane speed limit, setting the record for the fastest fine in a F1 career. He would go on to win 4 World Drivers' Championships.
8. In theory, a F1 car running at 200 Km/h (120 mph) would generate enough downforce to be stick on a ceiling, thus, driving upside-down on a tunnel. However, there are some questions regarding whether the fuel and oil systems would work. Looks like a stunt Red Bull could attempt...
9. In one year, in all races, qualifying, practice and testing sessions, all 20 F1 cars combined burn less fuel that a single London-New York transatlantic flight. All the logistic circus that moves F1 around the globe, though...
10. A modern F1 car is made up of 80,000 components.
