In the 1780s, many French citizens were dying of starvation, however, they did have food, Potatoes. The French wouldn't eat the potatoes because they thought they were poisonous so a pharmacist bought a 2 acre plot, planted potatoes, and hired 2 armed guards to 'protect' them. The guards were instructed to accept bribes and to not arrest anybody. The French thought there was something valuable planted there and started stealing the potatoes and ate them.

+1
Level 62
May 22, 2026
Just like how Venus is the hottest planet and not Mercury
+1
Level 15
May 22, 2026
That's a different reason. Venus is hot because of its greenhouse effect. Uranus is cold for a different reason.
+2
Level 36
May 22, 2026
He means the contrast. Mercury is believed to be the hottest, since it is closest to the Sun, but it is actually not. Similarly, Neptune, being the farthest planet from the Sun, is considered to be the coldest, but the coldest is actually Uranus.

Another crazy fact: The northernmost part of "contiguous" U.S.A is separated from the mainland by a lake (Lake of the Woods), which is in Ontario, Canada (I think)
