If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors.
Those in power always detested those keeping them in check. It's nothing new and nothing to cheer on. This kind of short sighted anti-intellectualism stands in the way of a genuine and sincere critique of media.
The problem with modern journalism is that most journalists are prigs. If all the people who are supposed to keep the politicians in check come from a narrow slice of the gentry, you get what we are experiencing now, where the media constantly casts shame on the lower classes. Instead of "keeping power in check", they simply parrot whatever ideology is popular among the wealthy at the current moment.
The media is quite simply out-of-touch with the common people. They don't come from the common people and possibly don't even know any. Maybe it's always been that way. In any case, I'd much rather be led by Thomas Jefferson than his critics.

Wall Street Journal-*predicts the fall of stocks in any company with the words "Thomas" or "Jefferson"---
Chicago Tribune-*publicly denounces Thomas Jefferson---
NPR-"And this is why we are a radio station, tonight at 8:00 we..."

Seems to me Jefferson should have thanked journalists for not telling the truth about him.
