QM can still choose quizzes with more than 100 answers to be featured and they can be spotlighted, just not nominated - this was a new policy brought in a few years ago. l believe the idea was to stop loads of people basically recreating the Countries of the World quiz with only the most minor of tweaks (or something like that).
All quizzes made up to the date of the policy change can still be nominated, irrespective of number of answers; since the change was brought in, only quizzes with 100 or fewer answers can be nominated.
I made the point at the time that quizzes such as my All UEFA Champions League Teams Ever would never have been featured under the new rules, yet it was, only because it topped the nominations leaderboard.
I would still support reversing this policy, perhaps with modifications or caveats to its initial form.
Also, my All UEFA Europa League Teams quiz, with 240 answers, is due to be featured in September after topping the nominations leaderboard a few weeks ago.
Virtually all of the nominations it received came after the new policy was introduced and ended up with something like 170. So it proves that there is still an appetite among users for quizzes completely divorced from the Countries of the World quiz with more than 100 answers (in the above case, more than double!).
On a side note, and I’m not just saying this because they’re my quizzes, but it’s refreshing when non-Geography quizzes get featured via nominations, so it would be nice if the policy were to be changed so that each week the top Geography and non-Geography quizzes both got featured. Otherwise we keep ending up with basically rehashed versions of the same quiz, which is what the new policy was meant to avoid in the first place!
@Quizmaster I think very few would disagree about the logic behind any of what you’ve said. There’s this feeling among some users that the simple act of having taken a month to create a map quiz where you have to name every road in the United Kingdom should in itself make it worthy of being featured, even though only about 3 people take it. A robust nominations policy rightly prevents such quizzes from being featured.
But I don’t think that necessarily gets to the heart of the issue I raised - the Champions League quiz I referenced has 154 answers. It’s only because I created it prior to the new nominations policy that it was eligible for nominations. It now has over 100k takes (and, for the record, wasn’t that tricky to make). I think a quiz being featured also accelerates the number of takes it gets and I doubt you would have featured it without the nominations - which, by the way, is your prerogative.
Also, I would say that it’s more the general act of having a featured quiz, rather than the nominations system specifically, which is considered an “achievement in quiz making”. Whether that’s the intention or not, that’s the reality, and I’m sure I speak on behalf of the entire JetPunk community in saying that. I mean…look at the title of this thread! I also think that having a Quizmaster rank and displaying the number of featured quizzes on a user’s profile strengthens this feeling.
There are (what I would consider to be) cliques within the JetPunk community, where users basically brown nose each other, writing spotlight blogs about their JetPunk mates even though their quizzes are actually of a very poor quality, and this also extends into mutual nominations. I’m not suggesting that any action against this should necessarily be taken; it’s just an observation (and if I’m observing it, then I’m sure others are too), but I think that goes some way to explaining your final point.
I too have noticed a couple of users nominating each other's quizzes just because it was made by that specific user. I haven't seen it happen to me as of yet, though perhaps I am biased?
It's my only hope.

It would be nice to see QM's reasons for still keeping it.

That's not the intention.
I want to feature quizzes that people actually want to take, not necessarily ones that require tons of expertise to make.
We still have this problem where a quiz will have like 100 nominations but only 500 takes. Probably some people who nominate don't even take the quiz.

Surely there’s a middle ground?
