CityPopulation.de Name Help

On CityPopulation.de I noticed that we use some of the names in the “name” section and some in the “English name” section. Is there an official list saying which name to use? You can find what I am talking about here.

For example we use Guangzhou not Canton (the English name), but we use Cairo (the English name), not Al-Qahirah.

I’ve also noticed, for instance we tend to use the native name in India but the English name in Arabic-speaking countries. This also sparked a quiz idea for me. Drop a comment saying what country I should do next… Translate Cities to English!

I would say that citypopulation.de is only useful for the populations, not the names. You should probably look at other quizzes to find the names you're looking for. But in general, the names we use on JetPunk are the "common" names for the cities. Nobody really calls Guangzhou Canton anymore, so

Rule of thumb is to just use whatever name Wikipedia uses.
