The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) will take place in Belém, Brazil, in November.

Before that, you can take my multiple-choice quiz about Belém.

Take this opportunity and also take the quiz about São Paulo and other Brazilian cities.

Nice work on the quiz! I know virtually nothing about Belém but I was still able to enjoy the quiz and learn some things.

Also, I wish these climate change summits actually did something. It's a cruel joke with China building like 50 new coal plants every month.

Europe could reduce their emissions to zero and it just doesn't matter at all.

I understand your point, but we have to keep in mind that many american and european companies have their factories and produce in China, Bangladesh, India or other southeast asian / asian countries we also have to look at the per capita figure to see which countries pollute the most. I think consumerism is what's causing this, and I think Europe is doing well in many ways, but in others, it's simply moving its problems elsewhere

But you are right that China could promote much more sustainable growth in many ways too

China has already far surpassed the EU in per capita emissions and will pass the US before long!

The EU is actually fairly irrelevant these days, producing just 6.4% of emissions, compared to 12% for the US, and 34% from China.

Percent of primary energy consumption from renewables has increased by 11ish points, while the world as a whole has by 6. Renewables are a third of electricity and China generates 3x more hydro than the next country (points if you know what #2 is). The problem is that the nonrenewable sector is still growing at a large rate and the sheer scale of the country means this growth is stupendous.
