Countries Containing "Letter" Answers

Submitted by MeMeMe333 on August 1, 2025
Sorry, I cannot find a good title for this thread.

I am making a series about countries that contain a certain letter, but am unsure what to accept and what not to accept.

Currently, I am using the full names as to Quizmaster's Countries of the World Quiz, but there's been a suggestion that I don't accept 'Czech Republic' for the letter 'B', even though the COTW quiz has 'Czech Republic' rather than 'Czechia'.

Also, there are a few countries which have the word 'and' in their names (Saint Kitts and the Nevis, Bosnia and Herzegovina etc), and I'm not sure whether to add them in the Countries Containing D or N quizzes.

What do you suggest I accept/not accept?

Don't accept as then it won't be consistent with the COTW quiz. QM puts Micronesia under F and the Congos under R and D.

Definitely include any 'and' countries under the N and D quizzes. Czechia vs. Czech Republic is a harder decision. Both are technically official names, but Czechia seems to be used more often, even by official Czech sources. I'd probably omit it on the B quiz.

Thanks! I currently have omitted it, and added a caveat about it.

In cases like that you can also always not include an answer, but still list it on the answer grid already filled out in grey.

I don't know how to do that... Can you teach me?

Once you have your quiz finished (with the answer you want to “grey out” not included in your quiz yet), go to the Design step in the quiz editor and change from auto to manual. You can then add a row wherever you’d like the greyed-out box to be. Add the row and type the text for the answer you want to have already provided. Since it’s just text in this cell (and not linked to an answer or hint), it will already appear before you even start the quiz.

To make the cell grey, expand “Edit Styles” and select edit styles for this row. Then you can change the background of the cells in that row to be whatever shade of grey you want.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the notice! I didn't search for existing quizzes thoroughly enough. Hopefully Luckycat will accept my apology.
