Just joined Duolingo

Submitted by DarthKnight on September 9, 2025
A couple days ago I started an account on Duolingo. I know a lot of people on JetPunk also use Duolingo so I figured I'd ask if anybody wanted to be friends on there (I was going to do this but my brother told me that your 'friends' on Duolingo can help you out sometimes so I figured "Eh, why not?")

Also, for someone who just started, is there anything you think I should know about Duolingo (that most beginners don't realize at first)?

One more question: Is there anyway for me to change my username? Maybe in settings? I just did my first name but I'd like to change it to DarthKnight (which is my username on all social media platforms that I use).

So, if you want to be my friend on Duolingo than you can just me a message on JetPunk and tell me your user name I guess? I don't know what the best way to do that would be...

Edit: I went to settings and figured out how to change my name. So if you want to find me my username is: DarthKnight008 (it's like James Bond but better).

Thanks in advance! :)

I would also like to clarify that I had a Duolingo account several years ago where I was learning Spanish. But that account was just for school. I'm doing it now just for fun.

Also, can anybody guess what language I'm learning? Here's a hint: It's not Klingon.

I used to have a 500+ streak in Spanish but I lost interest and stopped using it. Though I will say that if you seriously want to learn another language, then Duolingo probably shouldn't be your choice.

If this is just for fun and dont want any stress from it, then i advise u to not start a big streak, because you will feel pressured to do it everyday, and eventually u will find yerself doing lessons when you really dont want to, just to keep yer streak.

Same with the leagues

But anyways, good luck on yer French Learning !

Duolingo's stock price has been on fire ever since they realized people want to pretend to learn a language more than actually learn one.

I used to enjoy Duolingo and even had a premium membership. But it became unbearable, and honestly, it wasn't very useful for learning.

On the other hand, I had amazing results after practicing Spanish with a tutor just one hour every weekday for a month. There are lots of websites that provide that service and it's relatively cheap depending on where your tutor is located.

I wish there was something like Duolingo but more focused on learning instead of fake accomplishments.

I understand your reasoning. But I don't have the money to pay for a tutor. At all, sadly. Also, this is just for fun. I'm not taking it extremely serious or anything. It's not like I'm moving to France or anything. It's more just something I thought would be interesting to do. But I do appreciate the comment. :)
