Favorite music of 2025

What are your favorite songs, albums, etc of 2025? As it gets to the end of the year I’ve been trying to work my way through whatever looks interesting I haven’t heard yet, and recommendations are always appreciated!

My favorite albums:

West Texas Degenerate by Treaty Oak Revival - really fantastic combination of country rock and emo I really haven’t heard executed in that way before

The Price of Admission by Turnpike Troubadours - probably the best songwriting I’ve seen the whole year from one of my favorite bands ever

Breach by Twenty One Pilots - another one of my favorite artists of all time but this is some of their best material ever and an honest to god rock album which is what I’ve been looking for from them for years

No One Was Driving the Car by La Dispute - the very best emo band of all time and this is another near perfect album from them

Favorite songs:

Smoke & Embers by Waylon Wyatt

River Washed Hair by Zach Bryan

A Song For You by Zach Bryan

City Walls by Twenty One Pilots

Heaven Passing Through by Turnpike Troubadours

I highly recommend The Six String Sorrow Sessions by Southall.

Both of Charley Crockett's album releases this year have been really good, as well.

I’ll be honest I’ve always liked Charley Crockett more as a person and a character than I have for his music but he did kind of win me over with Dollar a Day this year.

Haven’t really followed Southall since they changed their name but I do always love acoustic sessions so I’ll check it out

If pontiac drops his remix of "Almost Heaven, West Virginia" that will be the dopest song of 2025

my favorite thing about WV’s state motto is that of all the states in the country, WV is one of those ones that would not be how anyone would describe “almost heaven”. the states furthest from heaven are like New Mexico, Mississippi, West Virginia, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Arkansas

i think Arizona is literal hell on earth. i once flew through PHX, landed at 6:15 am local time, sun was barely up, and it was 107°F. how in the world is Phoenix a city as big as it is

2025 was not a great year for music. At least for me.

Best album: Karol G - Tropicoqueta

Best song: Karol G - Latina Foreva. Surprisingly, very catchy.

Notable mention: Doechii - Denial Is a River”

Biggest flop: Sabrina Carpenter - Man’s Best Friend. I've founded very overrated.

Really enjoyed the Clipse album but never really got around to most of the other big hip hop records this year. My favorite of what I did hear though was Backxwash, that one was really something else
