Find the Fake Fact (ANSWERS)

Submitted by IFGroup on January 20, 2026
Okay, let's reveal the answers from this thread!

The fake fact is........ FACT #1!

Hallmark did not popularise celebrating birthdays. Birthday celebrations first became widespread in the 1800s, long before Hallmark was founded. I actually got this fake fact from a Ron Swanson quote in Parks and Rec, haha.

Facts #2 and #3 are actually true. For #2, while the tardigrades may not be living really, they are almost certainly surviving in their hibernation-like mode, which allows them to simply curl up and withstand gamma radiation, heat and cold, and the vacuum of space, and to go without food or water for up to 30 years.

Fact #3 took place in 2008. Rafaello Folleri was charged with 14 counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering. The FBI investigated Hathaway and found that she had no knowledge of her boyfriend's criminal activities.

That's all for this episode of Find the Fake Fact. Check back soon for more!

I guessed 2... I knew tardigrades could survive in space, but I doubted that some of the minor details in the fact were correct...

Congrats to toowise, Xtro, lingonax and maybe Neo (did he already know the answers?) for getting it right!

Thanks for the answers!

I guessed at 1 because I thought I had read somewhere that Hallmark invented Mother's Day and Father's Day to create more business. Not Birthdays.

Mother's Day was not a Hallmark invention. Mother's Day was created by Anna Maria Jarvis (A West Virginian) who, after her mother died, created a day to honor her mother and the sacrifices of all mothers. Mother's Day cards were originally handwritten but then mass produced by Hallmark in the 20s

Well none of them are Hallmark inventions, it's just Hallmark makes them more widespread and marketable
