when making a quiz that has groups in it like the country quiz where there are groups for each continent, how do I link some of the answers to one group and the others to a different group.

Something that has to do with switching to manual mode when making the quiz I'm sure

Yes. Go to Manual Mode, and there's the option to make groups of specific answers depending on a shared hint. For example, countries with the hint "Europe" will all be grouped into a "Europe" column when you press that option.
