Has anyone been to Chongqing or China in general before?

Submitted by In2restingFacts on October 16, 2025
My friend and I are considering planning out a trip to Chongqing, China, for graduation, and we’re trying to figure out some general stuff first. Has anybody here happened to have traveled to Chongqing before, and if not CQ specifically, China in general (preferably recently)? I’d love any advice. I already have a Chinese travel visa and I’ve been studying Mandarin for a few years and read, speak, and write it at a basic-intermediate level and I’m familiar with plenty of travel phrases, so we’re good on those fronts. What else would help?

Ive been to quite a few places in china, and i think if youre learning chinese you should make sure to get your pronunciation of the tone right otherwise it seems like youre saying something else

Also, random people on the streets might do some gross things but thats normal

If youre eating in a restaurant, make eating noises

Sometimes people willbe rude without knowing, and they can call people fat or black people black casually, without really knowing if they offended someone, so yeah

I dont really know what else to say but enjoy your trip !

The food is excellence, and cheaper than it is in other countries, but I guess just stay safe. It's very busy in China and easy to get lost.

And don't eat snake. Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, it's been illegal.

Maybe try goose if you haven't before, even though it is more of a Guangdong thing...

Why would eating snake be illegal?

Some would say it causes the pandemic, and that eating animals like that would be dangerous, I guess.

in fairness, the viral/bacterial negligence and risks associated with wet food markets really isn’t much better than that of America’s factory farms

I have not, but stay safe. Traffic will be one of your biggest threats along with weather.
