Has time been passing more quickly since 2020?

Submitted by akjlddkjslfsd on December 25, 2025
It might be just me, but it feels like time has literally been flying since the onset of COVID in 2020. Look at it: with the year 2025 ending, we're already more than halfway through the 2020s! It seems to me that hardly any time has passed since 2020, and the year 2019 still feels very much like "yesterday" or "last year".

Do you feel the same, and any ideas as to what's causing it?

I agree. I believe it's related to being more online, and less real world experiences.

When you're online, either gaming, schooling or scrolling, the days blur into one and you have less distinct memories to actually fallback on. Therefore it feels like time is going by fast.

Pre-pandemic most people were going to school or work everyday, they had activities on at the evenings, at the weekends, they'd have more time with friends in person. All of these contribute to differing memories to reflect back upon, making time feel slower.

In a week, 2016 will be 10 years ago

Covid will be 6 years ago

Were closer to 2050 than to 2000

Mindblowing

But Merry Christmas

It's the 26th for me already :(

But Merry Christmas still. We've celebrated like 5 Christmases without knowing it. Actually crazy when you think about it.

It's an age thing.

When you're 10 a year is 10% of your life so far.

But when you reach 50, then a year is only 2% of your life.

The older you get the smaller the percentage making time appear to pass quicker.

That's a good theory, but it really depends on the age...

Ik what you mean. I have this feeling too. Also having children will increase time by 2 or 3, for each child you have.

I currently travel through time at the speed of the Shinkansen.

Technically, no but like Muhammad Ali stated: You need to make the days count, not the count days.

I really agree with a lot of what has been said. Aging and being online more makes things go by.

And so, like people are saying, we ought to enjoy our moments with friends and family. We ought to enjoy the tiny details of our lives instead of trying to live for the future or work towards the next step, dreading what we are currently doing.

For that reason, the time I do spend on JetPunk, I want to build community and build each other up. I will admit sometimes I get frustrated at things, so if anyone else feels like I haven't done that, I am sorry.

Yes, but it's all on perspective. We must make our days memorable.
