Have quiz spotlights become less effective?

Submitted by akjlddkjslfsd on March 30, 2026
I feel like spotlights now are generating fewer takes than they did before.

I've had two spotlights since the new Front Page went live, once in December last year and once yesterday. Both only generated a few hundred takes in comparison to the 1,000+ before.

I'm guessing it's because the new front page gives people the option to hide the spotlighted quizzes from the FP. I'm not against this design choice but I feel like it's been a factor in the decrease in takes.

But it could be just me and there might be other factors at play, such as both spotlights taking place on weekend days (once on Saturday and once on Sunday), or the relatively niche genres of those quizzes.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Dunno. I haven't had a spotlight before the new FP.

I have stopped checking the recent spotlights page, though.

I know it depends on the quiz - sudden death tends to get a lot of takes (almost a thousand, and it benefits your other sudden death quizzes), which niche-er topics (like my Bible quizzes) only get around 100 takes.

On the bright side, you do get free premium!

Actually, my latest quiz spotlight came a day before the premium giveaway was announced... :(

I think it's because you need to scroll a little bit more before you get to the spotlighted quizzes and thus less "casual" JP users notice them

You got 1000+ before?

I usually get a couple hundred, maybe a bit more if the quiz is short and easier.

Yeah, and for the record that was back in 2022 and 2023

I was inactive for most of 2024 and 2025 and had a few spotlights during that period, but since I wasn't active I don't know how they performed

Weekends typically have about 30-40% less takes overall, so that's a much bigger factor.

Personally I've noticed a marginal drop (as expected for the new position) but it's nothing particularly of note.

Also where they were before - so prominently displayed - was a problem as a number of spotlit quizzes were inaccurate and out of date. Being slightly more hidden and less in-your-face helps that issue

That makes sense, thanks for explaining Stewart!

I've always found it interesting that weekends are less popular with JetPunkers as you'd expect the reverse to be true: More free time on weekends should equal more takes? But perhaps people enjoy quizzing more during or after work/school?

I had a spotlight get me a quiz from like 300 to 1100 a month ago, it can still happen. Another spotlight in November only got me like 300, so it depends on the quiz.

one of the recent times my quiz got spotlighted, the spotlight date was unfortunately on a weekend, so it didn't garner that much takes

I spotlighted my own quiz once out of 3 or 4 spotlight awards I've got (last November), and that quiz has 63 takes as of now. I also got lucky to get scheduled for Saturday.

Personally, I've probably played more spotlighted quizzes before new design. I also feel that there might be more rehashed and too niche quizzes (to the point I don't recognize the topic at all) whenever I check the spotlights.
