How to be disciplined

Submitted by Marjamjelly on March 19, 2026
Hello all,

Recently I have had a resurgence in desire to memorize geography and places (namely cities and FLS) but I have been struggling with doomscrolling instead. I would really rather spend my time learning as its more fufilling and honestly more enjoyable, but it's just been hard.

Would you care to share any tips for being disciplined? Anything is appreciated.

P.S. do you think I should spend my time learning FLS or cities more?

For every country i learn the FLS of, I do a JetPunk quiz on it. if i get 100%, i will go for another after some time. This is how I managed to learn and memorize the French FLS down to name and map, and a majority of the Colombian FLS as well.

If you're doomscrolling on your phone, try turning your phone screen grayscale.

Delete your apps, or remove them from your homescreen

That way you wont see them and wont be tempted to doomscroll

This made me able to learn a lot of fls (all of Europe except for North Macedonia which I am currently in the process of)

you got Slovenia done???? Honestly, respect for learning the 212 municipalities (unless it's the regions, which is more reasonable)

I usually do cities. If you have a world atlas on hand, that works. I like the Oxford World Atlas, and I buy a new edition every 3 years. Then, if you you’re using a book, you won’t be tempted to look at your phone, if it’s in a place far from where you are. This is how I got over 3,000 US cities on CityQuiz.io

Kudos for getting 3000 US cities! I can barely get 500 :/
