I'm looking for your thoughts on my blogging future...

Submitted by toowise on December 6, 2025
As the title suggests, I have somewhat lost my way with my blogs. I needed to take more time for work and family commitments (In a few months I will be a grandfather again) and so my blogs obviously took a back seat.

But now, I find that I have some time to start writing (or should that be typing?) again.

The problem I have is that my previous series, "The Virtual Road Trip" seems to have bogged down. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with trying to write about every single settlement on US Route 1 between Maine and Florida. I'm part way through part 7 and haven't even got as far as New York. I was getting less and less comments, and to be honest, I was just getting bored with it.

I feel that if I carry on with this series to the bitter end, I will just be writing to a poorer standard just because I'm fed up with it. I sometimes wonder why I set myself these gigantic challenges.

So anyway, I thought I'd take a quick poll amongst you lovely people to see what direction I should take.

My options are...

1. Carry on regardless with an ever decreasing blog I'm not happy writing.

2. Write a few one-off blogs. (I have a couple in the pipeline anyway)

3. Take on a new challenge (details below)

4. Give up completely (not really an option, just put it in for context)

Possible new series...

Five Villages of... in a similar vein to my Five Islands series

So, over to you...should I abandon the Road Trip and get back to "normality" whatever that is?

I've missed your contributions to the blog page. :)

I would say to go with option three. However, I wouldn't mind seeing a revival of your "songs whose lyrics make no sense" series.

Thanks for your reply,

As it happens I have a couple of songs already noted in my "little black book" for inclusion in a future blog !

I did want to do a blog about my work day, that's where the majority of my UK travel lies, however my employer has a clause about sharing work related content online.

Most of my other travel was many years ago and there are some, but not many, photos. Most of my memories are in my head unfortunately.

I will look into the idea a little though, see if I can come up with something. Thanks for the reply!

You could always finish your original series but modify it somehow. For instance, you could just choose which Swedens to talk about or just focus on larger settlements or something.

I could, but I feel it would be somewhat anticlimactic after the first 6 blogs, to go from every little settlement to just the main ones missing out lots of places.

I think I may just put the series on ice for a while and maybe return at a later date.

(Was "Swedens" an auto correct ?)

Whatever you choose to type about YY, please come back. The RUB has become a clutter without your guidance, so any project you want is very much welcome.

To append and opinion, I would like the Five Villages of... series, or even Five _____ of anything. Could be Mountains, Temples (historic sites), Buildings, Rivers, you name it. As a geography buff I would be accepting of whatever you put out there, as long as it's up to YY standards :)

Thank you for you kind words LC.

It will be up to my usual standard, this is partly the reason I have more or less decided to end the Road Trip. I didn't want to put out a blog that was sub-standard, and I could feel the series heading that way.

On a positive note, I already have my first five villages lined up on my list.

what if you did in-depth blogs about your favorite cities you’ve ever travelled to and why you like them so much

That's not a bad idea to be fair, just one problem with that. In most cases I visited over 25 years ago, lots of things have changed in that time. My memories may not be compatible with today's reality.

I'll think it over though, thanks for the suggestion.
