Infinite Jest

Bit of a long shot here, but has anyone ever read Infinite Jest? It’s very long, and it took me a long time to kinda decide if I liked it or not. I think it’s slowly becoming the best literature I’ve ever read as I reflect more on it, and as I read more of the great works of the 20th century. Reading Lolita, 100 Years of Solitude, and The Old Man and the Sea… I just find myself thinking how Infinite Jest was better written. I’ve never come across someone who’s read the thing, and I’d just love to hear someone else’s opinion on it. 🤔

I haven't read it, indeed I hadn't even heard of it until now

Yeah, it’s the greatest novel that no one has read. 😂

It’s on a bunch of greatest novels lists, though. It’s stupidly hard to read, but I found it worth the initially incomprehensible slog.

I read maybe 150 pages of it, then decided to read 5 other books instead of finishing. I think I made the right call.

Definitely a fair appraisal. I powered through trying to figure out what the heck the plot was. Then I realized the plot was purposely kinda silly and incoherent. On the other hand, it features the most detailed and brutally honest look at addiction and depression I’ve ever seen. Kinda like Bojack Horseman, which I also love. 🤔
