Mistake in ‘Single Vowel Countries’

Submitted by Charlize1327 on February 2, 2025
Hi,

I see you have Chad in the A section,

why don’t you have Egypt in the E section? Y isn’t a vowel!

Many thanks

Charlize

Hi Charlize. You are mistaken. Y is a vowel in English when it makes a vowel sound. Egypt has two vowels. Otherwise, what’s making the vowel sound in the second syllable, “-gypt”?

Sincerely,

Language nerd.

The one thing I like about the American school system is they do say that Y is sometimes a vowel unlike their British counterparts.

When will we it ever be taught that W and V can also be vowels (crwth, cwm), (evovae)

W is just an annoying edge case. Yes, town technically has two vowels.

After having a quiz of mine about vowels be featured on the front page, I have been awakened to an entire world of people who have no idea that Y is a vowel.
