We probably (not sure as I haven't done the math) lose money on JetPunk premium subscriptions compared to how much we'd make from ads. The people who buy premium tend to be the ultra-heavy users.
I could add more features but I'd probably have to raise the price.
“The people who buy premium tend to be the ultra-heavy users.”
That's the problem, I think. The average user doesn't care about analytics, nor will ads really bother them.
I would wager that 95% (if not more) of all Premium members, casual or hardcore, bought it solely to support JetPunk. The benefits just aren't all that appealing.
(Edit: I forgot about the ability to add tags. Just lump them in with analytics here.)
Actually, the disappointment of JetPunk shop (among other metrics) has showed that the average user just doesn't care much about JetPunk, and isn't that attached. And certainly isn't willing to spend money.
So yes, new features can be created and the price increased to compensate, but the likelihood is it won't attract anybody new.
I bought premium back in 2020 for 5 years meaning its expiring in May. I think it was around $30 back then for 5 years (please correct me if im wrong). I’ve been considering whether renewing my subscription would be worth it in the long run. I LOVE the analytics but apart from that i don’t see any other reason to why i should extend it beyond than to support Jetpunk.
Question for QM: We used to be able to see a page that listed the dates of when we achieved each level. I can't find this anymore. Has the feature been archived?
I bought Premium for one reason, I hate ads. I have never used the analytics. I suppose a small part of me wanted to support the site too. (I use Wikipedia a lot and tend to send $5 their way once in a while).
I use JP almost every day so the lack of ads is worth every penny of the Premium rate.
I could add more features but I'd probably have to raise the price.
Worth it?
I'm not sure.
A.) Have Premium be a token that only dedicated users buy to support JetPunk (seemingly what you're doing right now)
B.) Have Premium be more accessible for the average user, with more features
I reckon option B would be more profitable, but would probably have to come with a price hike.
