Most Famous Person in the World

Submitted by dug28 on October 1, 2025
Yesterday I watched a YouTube video from Paul McCartney's latest concert (crazy that he's still touring at 83 years old!). Someone in the comments said that Paul is the most famous person in the world. I don't think that's accurate.

But that got me wondering... who IS the most famous (as in well-known) living person in the world? I don't know that there's an objective answer, but you definitely need input from the global community, so I thought JetPunk would be a good place to ask. Google suggested people like Cristiano Ronaldo, Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, or the Rock. What would you say?

It probably is just some uneventful answer like Donald Trump, his name has been sticking around for the past 10 years. Although Barack Obama is probably up there as well.

Probably Trump since he always makes the headlines with every single move he makes.

Haha-- we're probably walking on thin ice here. The message board guidelines say "Politics and culture war are strictly forbidden." I think you could make a very good case for Trump, for better or worse. Maybe we should take him out of the equation?

I would also say Donald Trump. I don't know anyone who doesn't know him. For better or for worse, you be the judge.

Jesus christ probably but for modern people it's probably Adolf Hitler or Micheal Jackson and I honesty have no idea who Paul McCartney is

If you're talking living or dead, Jesus is a good answer. I was wondering about a person who's still alive. Paul McCartney is a former Beatle. :)

I guess it depends on your definition...

I think it's Jesus (which is a good thing)

Seriously, people nowadays are still Christians. It's not like there are people following Cleopatra or Napoleon as a part of their faith/religion.

Also other religions also include Jesus Christ, which probably makes him the biggest.

I agree on Adolf. Trump may not be known in some obscure countries... but Adolf I think is known everywhere (sadly)

What qualifies as an obscure country these days? I think a good measure would be countries with the lowest smartphone penetration. According to wikipedia, the top three countries with the lowest percentage (as of 2022) are Pakistan at 31%, Nigeria at 38.1%, and India at 46.5%. Someone should make a quiz about that. :)

Yeah but there is also knowledge from previous generations and books in those countries

Those countries are suspiciously large.

Is there reliable data for countries like Equatorial Guinea and Central Africa Republic? Probably not.

Trump put tariffs up against islands that only had penguins. I’m pretty sure the most obscure countries would have heard of Trump because they probably were included in the tariffs.

Burkina Faso wasn't included.

I think you're overestimating how well known he is. I remember some guy from Namibia (I think) made the news a while ago because he was called Adolf Hitler; his parents named him that way because they thought Adolf was simply a famous politician and not... well everything else he did.

Adolf is well known in Europe and western countries. But not in Africa or Asia. We know him cause our countries were directly involved with Nazi Germany. I saw a documentary about Niger and they had no clue about who he was.

Probably mr DJT. Also Narendra Modi and Xi are valid answers, due to the sheer amount of people that live in their respective Countries and likely know them.

Among living people, it's obviously Trump.

Modi and Xi don't stand a chance given that 90% of people outside their respective countries haven't a clue.

I agree, but you're overestimating how well known he is outside of the US.

When I was in Taiwan, like half of the TV news was about Trump (as opposed to 100% in US 😂).

Yeah, it's kinda hard to imagine for us in this community but we underestimate the amount of people that straight up never watch the news or care about stuff like this.

I actually know a guy like this, had to explain to him who Trump was, pretty surreal.

Oh, I'm aware that people are ignorant. I never said they weren't. But obviously Trump is more well known than others.

Now if the question was who is the most famous living woman, that could be more of a contentious answer up for debate, and the aforementioned Taylor Swift is certainly in the conversation

Now that Queen Elizabeth is gone, it's really hard to say.

Taylor Swift is definitely the most famous in the United States. But not sure how many Chinese or Indian people would know her.

And there aren't any internationally famous female athletes (in the same way that Messi or Lebron are famous).

I wonder if it's some K-Pop singer like Lisa. Or maybe someone from India wins just by getting 80% of their own country.

Probably Taylor Swift, but up until a few years ago Angela Merkel and Michelle Obama for sure. Also possibly Ursula von der Leyen, Beyonce and Kamala Harris.

Ironically, Melania Trump could be high on the list due to the sheer fame of her husband.

Even in Europe most people don't know who Von der Leyen is. I don't think there's any alive woman known by 40% of the world population

I know who Ursula von der Leyen is. But I imagine only about 1% of Americans could pick her out of a lineup.

India, China, or Africa? Far less than 1% surely.

Up until a few years ago I would have said Queen Elizabeth II, I suppose she is still instantly recognisable in almost every part of the world.

Living, I would say that Donald Trump is in with a good shout, I don't think King Charles III has the same recognition that his mother had.

I think that it is Trump ahead of Ronaldo and Messi. Definitely not music artists or actors. They're only well known in western societies. Putin could be in the conversation then. But way behind

Not sure about this map. In France they show Jules Verne but I assume 1/3 of the French population don't know about him. So imagine abroad. Should be Napoleon. The site is biased with culture

edit: my bad I didn't zoom. They didn't show him at first as he was too close to da vinci

Not really, they just put influential people born in certain places. So Obama is in Hawaii, not in the contagious US states and so on, and George Orwell is in India.

I haven't really heard of the 'influential' people on the map in Australia.

I think Trump. Trump is known everywhere. Putin is not well known in Africa, compared to Trump
