Mytilene (Lesbos), Yekaterinburg & Chelyabinsk - Europe or Asia?

Submitted by Hozi on April 4, 2026
I'm currently working on one quiz series and stuck with a dilemma whether I should include these three cities (Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and Mytilene on Greek island of Lesbos) as a part of Europe or Asia, so I'm letting Message Board to decide.

Technically on jetpunk all three would be considered european

Geographically speaking, I think the first two are asian and the last one is european

Good question. I had a look at the map and noticed that there is a Turkish island further west and further offshore than Lesbos, so it seems odd to think of it as Asian and Lesbos as European.

That island is listed as Imbros (Gökçeada in Turkish) and is the largest one in the country.

I like to think of the continents as being just the main landmasses, not including islands. But yeah, what Lindwyrm said is probably the most sensible option (Asia for the Russian cities and Europe for anything in Greece).

Depends on which side of the Urals they’re on. Both the cities seem to be on the Asian side, hence -Asia. The island- Greece. Cuz getting into the geography of each island may be nitpicking. So even though it’s in Asia, I don’t mind kindly donating it to Europe.
