Name origins

In Azerbaijan, names often carry deep symbolic or cultural meaning. Many of them derived from natural elements, virtues, or metaphors of strength, beauty, and resilience.

For instance we got names like Daşdəmir, which means "Stone-Iron". Basically, it's inspired by toughness, durability, and unbreakable character. And we got plenty of names like Polad (Steel), Savalan (named after mountain).

There a lot of males named after fauna as well. Şahin (Falcon), Tərlan (Hawk), Aslan (Lion), Cavanşir (Young lion). As for females, usually floral names used: Yasəmən (Jasmine), Lalə (Tulip), Nərgiz (Narcissus), Gülnar (Pomegranate tree's flower).

And finally, a lot of character trait-inspired names: Ədalət (Justice), Sevda (Passion, love), Arzu (Wish), Ümid (Hope), Uğur (very popular in recent years - Luck).

What about in your country?

Some people create weird names in France.

We have Parfait (Perfect), and... okay I don't have much examples but first names are very strange.

Source : trust me.

Most names in English mean something. For example, my name (Graham) derives from the town of Grantham, but also has Scottish origins and means gravel(or grey) homestead (or hamlet). Apparantly!

My name is the Indian word for Arcturus, the brightest star in the Northern Hemisphere, and the fourth brightest star in the sky.

A lot of Indians are named after the lotus, the sun, gold, Hindu gods n goddesses, and qualities.

Girls can have names which mean anklet, eyelash, ray, pure, smile, light, a mother’s love, wish, desire, dawn and evening. Guys can have names which mean anther, love, and imaginative.

I’ve met someone named Pista ( after pistachios), and a couple named Chaos and Nothingness (in Hindi).
