New Front Page – Coming Soon

We previously talked about redesigning the front page.

I released a concept to some users and... pretty much everyone hated it. And, the more I thought about it, I hated it too.

So I've gone back to the drawing board and come up with something different. This one preserves much more of the original front page.

Looks quite good!

I like that it doesn't change too much so experienced users don't have to learn a new layout. I also like that the spotlighted quizzes are relatively easy to discover since it's a short scroll down. I might not use them, but the useful links feature might come in handy for some users.

After poking around some more, I was wondering if there could be a way to bookmark more pages? I noticed that I can't for instance bookmark any groups or pages in other non-English sections of JetPunk. These would be helpful since so many clicks are required to get to these other pages.

Yes, you will be able to bookmark those pages. I will have to work with Stewart to extend the page to other languages.

This is the recommended quiz algorithm:

We look at the last 3 featured quizzes you took. Then for each one, we load the 50 most similar quizzes by tag similarity.

Out of that pot of 150 quizzes, we choose 10 randomly and then score them to choose the five "best" ones.

The layout looks great (love the customization feature too). Only nitpick I have is to clean it up a bit, no borders makes it look cluttered. DTC and Word Search should be bigger.

It does feel a little weird not having the top categories, browse, languages, and minigames, but it is difficult to fit all that on the front page. Maybe the sidebar is a little too quiz-centric (jk, jk) great work so far!

I wonder about the possibility of adding Recent User Blogs to the sidebar if we want so we can easily see the most recent blogs right there.

I know toowise has mentioned it a few times and would probably agree!

Yah a few more customization options would always be nice, the RUB I guess too.

One more note, I find the slogan kind of dumb. It's not horrible but I feel like it could be better

I like the new layout, I noticed that I can also add the RUB to the Links panel. I think it looks cleaner but still retaining the classy image rather than a brash "in your face" design.

Being able to customise the front page is a brilliant idea.

A blog panel with maybe the five most recently added blogs would be awesome, or even just a permanent link to the RUB that is visible to anyone?

Recent quizzes from subscribers is pretty genius. What a great idea. Edit: oh, that’s people I’m subscribed to. Which is also good. Recent quizzes from premium members is what I thought it was, which also seems interesting from a website perspective.

I like it, not too different but the changes are subtle enough to be a positive change, good job! Maybe to ensure the algorithm is more helpful if more quizzes would be featured to ensure some topics can be more thoroughly covered by the suggested algorithm, or maybe including non-featured quizzes by top 500 creators for example.

Works for me. Love the customisable side. Probably agree with others that it would look nice in boxes/panels.

My main request is to allow a language filter for people we are subscribed to so we have the option to keep the front page to quizzes in languages we speak.

(Small thing, but I feel like the daily quiz and crossword sat better above the date. It's clear from their names that they are daily things. Maybe it's just what I'm used to.)

I'm trying to decide how much real estate to give those. The Daily Quiz does pretty well but word search only gets 1000 takes a day and new ones are not being made.

I like it! I really like the customization idea. But what about "other language" section which was in the current front page?

Also, I would prefer if the customized things were also in the same type boxes there is now there.

I feel not having language as automatic option will not let user know there are other languages right off the bat.

I've bookmarked the new front page, now I'm using it instead of the normal one, so I can feel what it's like.

I'm absolutely loving it on desktop, but the mobile version is a bit of a pain
