New front page iteration

Submitted by Quizmaster on July 3, 2025
I made some improvements to the new front page concept (although this is still far from complete).

Let me know what you think:

The spacing and the arrows are making it look much cleaner!

I still think it would be nice to have a list of featured quizzes by day appear when you hit "more" on today's featured quizzes. If you're opposed to having it redirect to something similar to the old format of the front page, maybe you could just have it redirect to recently featured/reset quizzes?

I mainly say that because the "more" for both popular quizzes and today's featured quizzes brings you to the same page.

If not the old front page, than maybe to a page like the recent spotlights page that just gives a link to each featured quiz and what day they were on the front page.

Yeah! That would work too.

Also, out of curiosity, have you noticed any traffic changes so far?

Not really. The new version performs slightly worse.

What about now?

Nice improvement, only thing I wish to add is that on mobile, to signify that a quiz is featured, there is a white star, I'm guessing this would make more sense to be orange.

There will be something totally different for mobile.

A 'more' button at the end of the rows would be nice of course. To fill the empty space, maybe adding minigames in the same row as the daily challenges would work, and maybe a box at the bottom of the page for languages, tags, etc.

It does come together nicely

This won’t be for mobile right?

Correct.

This looks way better than the 1st iteration! Well done.

Still not planning on adding a box or row with Popular Categories / Popular Tags ? This is really lacking in my opinion.

+ I'm reviving an old suggestion to give an automatic thumbnail for quizzes that don't have one. The grey squares give an "unfinished" effect to the page.

Maybe a "Jeppy" as an automatic thumbnail ?

Maybe reuse the blue jeppy image which appears when linking a quiz from discord or others when it has no thumbnail?

I have thoughts on a few different aspects, so I'll do them as separate comments so others can reply to individual points.

1) I think that the arrangement of quizzes is smart, but it doesn't look or feel to me like a homepage. I think the problem lies with the fact that all of the rows/thumbnails are the same size, so it's like there's no focus on anything in particular.

A solution to this could be to make the Today's featured quizzes row bigger and bolder, and then to the right of it could go the User spotlight (which I think should be higher up anyway). You wouldn't necessarily have to have thumbnails for the User spotlight, but even if you did, these could be smaller, as I think there should still be some aesthetic distinction on the homepage between quizzes that are featured and those that aren't.

I agree: The actual iteration lacks or hierarchization of the content -no offense.

Making the Spotlights thumbnails smaller would be a natural way to do so. However I'm not in favor of disabling spotlight thumbnails as this would risk making this content "invisible" compared to the other rows.

2) Truth be told, I wouldn't be entirely against an entire refresh of the banner. You could even have a separate banner for the homepage from the rest of the site, which is maybe where you could house the more miscellaneous items, such as the Daily challenges.

Even if it is just tweaks to its existing form, I think the banner could do a lot more - there is certainly some empty space which could be utilised without cluttering it. But I'd be inclined to make it a little bit deeper.

3) I also don't think the heading or subheading really work. The font is bland and the text itself is just a bit boring. "We are your source for fun and educational quizzes." comes across as the exact opposite of what it's describing.

For the sake of comparison, I checked out the enemy (the one that begins with S) and one thing I think it has got right is its slogan - The Ultimate Trivia Destination - Discover how fun it is to know things. It sounds like a fun quiz website. It's short, snappy and gets to the point.

Also, I think the font could be made to look a bit more engaging - especially as it's black text on a white background.

The slogan thing is very important (I'm repeating myself again and again lol) with strong words like "play, create, fun, knowledge" and so. Thinking about this particular point would not be a waste of time IMHO.

Another thing that might be lacking is a few descriptions, more people would be more likely to click a quiz with a bit of context or a funny description

Yeah, I was thinking this but thought it might clutter things too much. However upon second thought maybe you could have the front page description appear when you hover over the quiz name?

To be fair, I prefer the old version because I think scrolling up and down is more convenient than using the arrows to scroll left and right... But the bigger picture format looks nice!

I like how it looks more than the previous attempt, but I have two main concerns:

-Without having them appear directly on the screen when the front page is opened, won’t such an organisation drastically reduce the traffic on the quizzes featured in the few days before the current one (which is currently pretty high)?

-I like the idea that the thumbnails of the spotlights appear like the ones of the featured quizzes (and the lack of a clear hierarchisation isn’t really a problem to me)… but many spotlighted quizzes actually don’t have one, so I feel like it looks a bit unprofessional.

Also, the "Daily Challenges" section looks a bit empty to me. Couldn't this space be a good opportunity to promote the other JetPunk minigames as well?

It was fine as it was. Not broke, didn't need fixing.
