No New Caledonia on the ‘countries visited’ map

Submitted by Chinamaster on March 15, 2026
I just want to make a request to the Jetpunk Quizmaster, about the absence of New Caledonia on the ‘countries visited’ map. I have been to New Caledonia, many major nations can be ticked for their internal first-level subdivisions, so can France. But when I saw the regions, I realised that New Caledonia was missing, I don’t know if this is deliberate or an accident, if it is deliberate then can you tell me why? If it is because it has some sort of autonomy compared to other French territories (other French overseas territories such as Mayotte, Martinique and French Guiana are all present as a box to tick), maybe New Caledonia could be included as a subdivision of France? If it has some degree of autonomy maybe it could be put in brackets just like (greenland)/(palestine)?

I would also like to point out that Greenland does not show up as a subdivision of the US.

If that’s the case, maybe New Caledonia can also be in brackets (New Caledonia) just like Greenland, wouldn’t that make sense?

Another argument regarding the divisional status of the five overseas departments. Guys, they aren't territories.

A polite request might've been considered. But this is quite an aggressive demand for it!

Equally, we cannot just add it as a new country, because it is not.

You are quite possibly 1 of less than maybe 10 users on this site who have been to New Caledonia, isn't that enough clout?

I know that it isn’t a sovereign nation, and extremely sorry if I come across as rude. But I am just a bit confused, if New Caledonia isn’t a territory, then what is it? The other French territories are on there, Martinique, French Guiana, Mayotte etc, so why not New Caledonia? What is so special about it?

The others are not territories. They are fundamentally part of France, just like Hawaii is to the US, being an overseas region / department. However, New Caledonia is not, they are functionally a territory and not considered as part of France proper. (so more like Puerto Rico)

Yes, exactly. The problem is, Puerto Rico is also included in brackets (Puerto Rico) under the US subdivisions. Another comment mentioned Greenland, which was also in brackets, just not part of Denmark, it was an individual option. New Caledonia not being listed as subdivision of France is perfectly fine, but it should be included somewhere, maybe in brackets?

Ultimately this is the site of the QuizMaster, he can do whatever he wants to. Why should he listen to us?

The way I see it, and I have no preference either way, is that if New Caledonia is added, then there will be someone that wants St. Pierre & Miquelon added. Then someone will want Pitcairn Island added, and Bouvet Island. The list is endless, and there has to be a line drawn somewhere.

I think the map is pretty good as it is, however I'm sure that if somewhere becomes independent as a new country it will be added.

Now, about the Scilly Isles.....
