Picks to Win Eurovision?

Submitted by Dimby on May 16, 2025
While I’m not European, I do have family from Europe, so I loosely follow Eurovision. What are our picks to win this year?

I’d be surprised if Sweden’s Bara Badu Bastu didn’t win. It’s a banger! It’s not perfect—every time the chorus hits I love the first bar and then it never repeats the 8th notes in the “Bara Badu Bastu” part, which I feel like would have been much more satisfying. Anyway…

Hopefully some sappy ballad doesn’t win (e.g., the UK entry or Israel’s). My pick last year, Rim Tim Tagi Dim, lost out to a song with considerably less energy.

My backup pick is Espresso Macchiato. While it has possibly the stupidest lyrics ever written, it’s got great instrumentation and an infectious beat.

while Greece has a beautiful ballad this year, the staging is a bit bland and I don't think it is going to place particularly high. I love the song, and would absolutely love to be proven wrong tho

The UK's entry is definitely not some sappy ballad!

I actually think our song is top-drawer - at least, on record. I listened to Remember Monday's semi-final performance and it did not come across well live at all.

Whilst it's not a sappy ballad, it could have been better. If they had continued the upbeat backing track right through the song, rather than keep slowing down and speeding up several times over, I think it could have been a winner.

The tempo/rhythm changes are one of the more interesting things about it imo. I think it could probably spend longer on the first fast section though and have fewer repeats of the same chorus line. They don't give the former long enough to cook, and by the end the chorus becomes a bit repetitive. Still, much better than the bland songs we've had the last couple of years.

In my opinion, Remember Monday's entry is an AMAZING song, but a pretty horrible EUROVISION song

That’s a fair assertion. It’s a weird choice for the competition—to me, it sounds like it should be in a stage play or something.

My absolute favourite is Albania. I love it. I also like Sweden, Latvia, Armenia and Finland (I was super happy when they qualified yesterday).

I don't really think Estonia has a chance. The lyrics are hilarious but his vocals are bad.

I think the winner will be Sweden or Austria.

Albania's is so wonderful! I do hope they make top ten at the very least. I agree that the winner will be Sweden or Austria. Out of principle, I have to hope it's Austria so Sweden doesn't get to 8 wins and kick Ireland out of the record they are currently tied for.

While I do think Sweden is going to win, I'm not happy about it. I will say that I absolutely cannot STAND Estonia's song.

Personally, I think Luxembourg is a bit of a dark horse this year, especially with the FANTASTIC staging upgrade from the national final. I think Laura has top 10 potential, when many people didn't even think she was going to qualify. I would also love to see Latvia do well, as I will always be a fan of Folk music.

Again, I don't see any of them winning, but my personal top 5 are (in no particular order bc my favorite keeps changing): Luxembourg, Latvia, Norway, Iceland, and Finland.

I have so many other Eurovision thoughts that I won't get into here, but I could quite literally talk about this all day.
