Random country you're weirdly obsessed with

Submitted by teqau on September 2, 2025
I used to be obsessed with Tuvalu. Any connection to Tuvalu? No, but I remember even doing a presentation about Tuvalu when I was like 7 years old in English class.

The teacher probably didn't even know the country lol

Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea. I think it's just because the culture of those four countries is so different from here in Europe and the UK in particular.

This may catch me some flak due to their debated status and tensions in the region:

Kosovo. Beautiful country with an interesting history, I’ve met lots of wonderful people from there. Not many people here know it even exists (probably like 15% at most), and the vast majority of those who do still think of the conflict in the late 90s, and think that it’s still a warzone.

Tried to be an exchange student there 3 semesters in a row, but each time it was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. I also tried teaching myself some basic Albanian (key word tried). Took me a while to get the “shq” sound as a native English speaker. My final project in college was on Kosovo’s development as a nation following the conflict.

The Balkans and Eastern/Southeastern Europe as a whole fascinate me, especially the former Yugoslav nations. Kosovo is high on my list of places I’m hoping to visit someday, along with Croatia, Turkey, Romania, and Greece.
