Should I delete or geofence Daily Trivia?

Submitted by Quizmaster on January 30, 2026
Unfortunately, our Daily Trivia feature is not growing. It's also extremely time consuming, I spend at least an hour a day on this (7 hours a week since I work every day). We might earn $1 for that hour I spend.

I'm also getting annoyed with every day the comments about it being "too America centric", or even "too Anglo centric".

It's impossible to make a quiz that appeals to everyone, and I am already rejecting 50% of questions I'd like to use in an effort to appeal to a broader audience.

In any case, I see a couple options.

1) Stop making Daily Trivia

2) Geofence daily trivia to US only. This would make it easier to write and barely reduce our revenue. It would also cut down on complaints by a lot.

But I just don't see how we can go on with the current status quo.

Thoughts?

Edit: We're going to keep it! People love it and not everything has to make money. I'm also going to take Dimby's suggestion and open it to non logged-in users. For my own sanity, I am going to institute a zero tolerance policy on complaints of US or Anglocentrism.

Daily trivia is one of my favorite features and I know a lot of people who love it.

I'm thinking maybe it would be best to just drop themes for the most part, and just find any 10 questions submitted you think are good, even if they are similar to some used awhile ago.

Another idea would be have people send in a full 10 questions with their own theme, and that way you spend only 1/10th of the time searching for a good theme instead of searching for 10 questions.

I honestly don't care that much. The DTC isn't ingrained into my JetPunk experience; I often find myself forgetting it even exists.

However, if there is an option to make it specifically for U.S. users, then I would vote for that option rather than full deletion. I still use it, and I know many other people adore it as well.

I never play the Daily Trivia, so I have no skin in the game, but these are my thoughts 😄

The short answer, QM, is that whatever you do will bear no financial impact, unless you really need that $7! An hour per dollar is not exactly a great or reasonable ROI.

How many people, on average, play the Daily Trivia? How many are based in the US?

If not many people are playing it, then you look at option 1 right away. How you quantify "many" is, of course, subjective, but if it is only a few, you may reason that it's worth temporarily upsetting a vocal minority for 7 hours of your life back!

If it's a significant number and the vast majority come from the US, then you look at option 2. "Geofencing" to US only will reduce complaints in the sense that everyone knows where they stand, but you also risk alienating non-US users. Depending on the numbers, that might be a risk worth taking.

Could you maybe do a Weekend Trivia instead? That would mean you have only 52 to do, rather than 365.

We have about 7000 people a day play daily trivia. I'm not sure how many are based in the U.S.

7000 for a $1 daily return? I'd scrap it. Folk can romanticise about playing it, but surely everyone can appreciate how that is not a good use of your time

Just researched this on Google Analytics, it's quite low. Over the whole of 2025:

1. USA - 30.0%

2. UK - 17.1%

3. Canada - 5.4%

4. France - 4.7%

5. Australia - 4.4%

6. Germany - 4.2%

Followed by Netherlands, Brazil, Italy and Poland.

Even if you ringfence by language, English is still only 70%, with French and German pulling up behind.

I just don't get it. Why are people from non-English speaking countries taking the quiz and then complaining that it doesn't cater to them?

I know! It's not meant to. It's an English language quiz.

If USA is 30% of traffic, it's probably 80% of revenue. Sitewide, US is about 70% of revenue. English language content is 92%.

But I suppose it's silly to talk about revenue on a feature that delivers almost no revenue.

I really don't think it's fair to blame the majority of users for the tired complaints of a few, but I understand how it can be annoying.

I love the DTC, I look forward to it every day. If you have to geofence it to the U.S, then I think that would be fine. But, I would hate if it were to be removed.

But if you're going to make a change, maybe I'd lean towards anything but geofencing. The non-US users that do like it shouldn't get the short end of the stick just because of their complaining compatriots

I'd recommend reaching some milestone (maybe DTC #1,000) and then archiving the whole lot.

I think they meant stopping the DTC at #1,000 and then make them replayable from the archive (which they already are)

A bit like what happened to Word Search

I dont do the daily trivia that often, but sometimes i do, and its really fun and is very beneficial to me and all the others that take it, so i think we would all be extremely sad

Maybe a way to make it more taken would he to maybe make it count for streaks ? That way more people would take it.

But i really hope daily trivia isnt taken down

I mean it is a feature we all love but it isn't cost or time effective. I say scrap the DTC if it saves your sanity (health always comes first!)

You could, however, advertise the DTC at the top of the quizzes, switching out the JetPunk Premium ads at the top of every quiz every few quizzes or so. This would be better advertising than the trivia question you immediately scroll past to get to the comments, if you ever do check the comments.

Just spit balling here, but I wonder how much DTC could grow if it didn't require a membership. If we use wordle as an example of a viral nerd activity, I STILL haven't made an account after 5 years of doing Wordle every day and sharing scores with my parents. No one wants to sign up to a site from a random link from a friend.

Yeah just lock it behind a pay wall I guess... Premium isn't worth it in the slightest so it needs these additional perks to boost sales.

I would also be willing to see an ad or two for the daily trivia. It's part of my nightly routine... extend my streak and then do the DTC. An ad won't bother me. Another option is to potentially have a couple trusted users take on some of the workload. I have to imagine that personally picking out 4000 multiple-choice questions and fact checking them is a tedious endeavour... but I'm sure people would rather have slightly worse DTC that is moderated by trusted users than lose it altogether because our dear QM is getting burnt out from it.

We can do something similar to the word search and have it randomized. I see plenty of my friends play the DTC, so at the very least if it was to get removed, archive and store it somewhere.

I'm in the UK and take the DTC almost every day. It's the first thing I do after checking notifications, I then do the Word Search, followed by checking the Message Board. After that I take any new or revised quizzes, and then check new user created quizzes as well as the RUB.

Now the DTC may not provide much revenue on it's own, but how many others are taking it as a part of their visit. Does that create more revenue?

If the DTC is changed to just US, then I will miss it, but It's not the end of the world. I'm happy with whatever happens for the good of the site.

Sad thread. Taking the DTC and extending my streak are the first two things I do when I log into JetPunk. So, of course, stopping the DTC isn't an idea I personally like (and geofencing would have the same effect on me, being French), but I completely understand that the question arises when it comes to making the most of one's time as an entrepreneur. If the DTC were to be stopped, I would like it to be archived if possible.

The Daily Trivia is genuinely my favorite thing on the website. I do it every day at midnight. I keep track of my scores over time. It got me more into trivia to the point that I run my dorm's trivia each week, sometimes with questions inspired by Daily Trivia. I've put friends and even families of friends onto it, and its part of the daily routine of many people I know. If you were stop doing it I understand but it would definitely be a big loss for the website.

Also the constant America-centric/Anglo-centric complaints have always been annoying and unfair. As an American, the geo-fencing doesn't really affect me but I'm sure plenty of non-Americans would be upset for the same reasons I would be

I have taken the DTC every day, I love them. Ignoring the comments complaining about if the questions are too weighted, if making DTC is actually too time consuming one of two suggestions I have would be to make it a semi-daily thing or to approve more user submitted questions to relieve some work off of you. Or maybe even less focus on themes. In any case certainly don't delete DTC.

I love daily trivia - it's one of the things that bought me to be more online on JetPunk.

You could, however, add more interesting features to DTC which are only available via daily trivia (like analytics or something), but that might just create more work (and income) for it, I guess.

Please don't remove it, though!!!

Also, I don't understand what geo-fencing is, but I'd prefer if not all of the questions are about USA - I'd be fine with American spelling or vocabulary, though.

Wait, does that mean people out of USA can't take it? :(

Also, the features for DTC Premium could be small like it remembers what you chose so when you look over the answers you can see if you got the question right or not - or something like that

I appreciate all the effort you've put into the Trivia, even if it must be removed. :(

It's a tough call. I do keep up with the Daily Trivia but it's understandable that it's probably a lot of upkeep on it, which quite frankly, I've never gave much thought to how much work it is.

If you end up removing it, it'll suck but I won't miss it very much. Many people have come up with solutions but if it's removed, I won't be protesting about it.

In other words, it sounds like it's become more of a hassle, and you should allocate your time more efficiently for your own sake.
