Spelling bees

Submitted by KiloNova on February 6, 2026
In case you didn't know, last year I completed in my school's spelling bee and misspelled 'grandiose'. This year, I was able to win my school's spelling bee in December and move on to district bee. Studied a few thousand words to prepare over the past 2 months.

Well, the District competition was this morning, and proud to share I beat all 37 contestants with 'tangerine' (easy to spell, I know. Great luck of the draw here, thankfully). I will be moving on to the DFW Regional Spelling bee which is in March.

That's all I have to share :)

Congrats! I had a primary school friend that won a national spelling bee and met the PM a few years back. (In Australia)

JetPunkers are currently sharing their thoughts today.

Speaking of which, they have spelling bees in Australia?

Prime Ministers Spelling Bee that started in 2020 or something. I think it was online back then, not sure about now.

I actually know two previous winners, and they both used to go to my school...

Online? There's like, so many ways to cheat online. Just put a piece of paper in behind the camera.

I'm sure they have some sort of anti-cheating measures in place, like forcing you to set your camera to a certain angle or something.

I know it because I once participated in an online competition of some kind where we had to answer questions from a paper, and they forced us to adjust the camera to a very specific angle to prevent cheating.

We did it at school on a control website.

Don't read this if you're going to search things up: We were in year 4, why'd someone cheat?

I'm not sure if that's the case.

For now, nothing statistically significant suggests that my blogs have altered MB activity that much. A day with 13 threads still seems within normal range.

my dad was in the national spelling bee. His favorite memory was after getting out (he was 54th or something) they had a "comfort room" that the kids got sent to. All the others kids were crying and stuff ad he says he just pigged out on food while they bawled their eyes out.

It mustn't have been that hard to get there though because he said in the Arkansas state spelling bee (Arkansas only sends one kid to natinals unlike other states)some girl from Desha county got out on the word "Tower" cause she just she didnt know and walked off the stage.

Spelling bees are so much fun. I won my district one in fifth grade but didn’t have the opportunity to go any higher than that. Good luck on regionals!
