Surrealism & the Uncanny Valley effect in various mediums

Submitted by In2restingFacts on December 8, 2025
I’m really fascinated with the concepts of surrealism, liminal spaces, and the Uncanny Valley effect. I find they evoke some of the most interesting feelings and emotions, be it in a TV show, artwork, video game, song, story, or a physical space. I have been wondering, would there somehow be a way to achieve one of these effects in a quiz format? I posit this query to some of the very talented quizmakers among us: could you make a surreal JetPunk quiz, and if so, how would you go about it?

It'd probably have to either be a picture quiz or a map quiz to achieve that, if I were to go about it.

Uncanny Valley is when e.g. an animated/recreated person, object, etc is pretty close to the real thing, but something just feels "off" about them, and this makes you feel scared or uneasy.

The "Valley" part comes from the fact that as a recreated entity gets closer to the real thing you feel better about it, until it reaches a level of "almost real" which can disturb some people and the feeling suddenly gets worse, and once it gets past this level you start to feel better again. If you sketch this on a graph it would look like a "valley" (positive slope -> negative slope -> minimum point -> positive slope again).

Not sure about the other ones, though.
