The regions of the U.S.

Edited by CommanderPro on February 5, 2026
In the US, you can tell what region a city is in based on the city name.

.

If it's Spanish, It's in the south or the west. (Such as El Paso)

If it starts with New, it's in the East. (Such as New York)

If it has ville at the end, it's Eastern. (Such as Nashville)

If it contains a water related word, it's Northern or Western.

If it has two words but none of the above, It's in the middle. (Such as Saint)

If it has a weird name, but none of the above, it's in Texas.

If it sounds like it was named by a caveman, It's in Hawaii.

Anything else that sounds indigenous in near the Midwest or Alaska

.

This only applies to MOST 200,000+ cities

it contains the word Sea, which is in the same category as lake and river. So It's north or west.

In fact it's both.

It kinda is for the most part. I figured it out when I played that one quiz where you have to pin the city on a map of the United States.

The largest city that breaks these rules is Fort Worth, Texas (1,008,106).

Ummm no. Fort Worth has two words and is in the middle. The middle is considered to be from North Dakota down to Texas, and from Minnesota down to Louisiana, + Wisconsin and Illinois

So Hawaiian sounds like a caveman language?

Not exactly. The common use of the letter K with lots of vowels makes it sound caveman-ish

I can argue Denver and Milwaukee have weird names or sound like a caveman has tried to sound them out.

I can argue on a lot of these things. Hawaii's towns don't sound like a caveman language, it is Hawaiian. For the bulk of it, perhaps correct, but it is not truly what happens.
